30 ROCK: APOLLO, APOLLO (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the cast and production team of a sketch comedy television show. In this episode, Jack prepares for his fiftieth birthday celebration, and Liz is exasperated to learn that Tracy intends to travel into space. Her odious ex-boyfriend Dennis then arrives and announces that he is a sex addict and wants to make amends, though she quickly throws him out. At the office, Jack views a home movie of an early birthday, amused at his own youthful exuberance, and realizes that he has nearly completed his childhood list of life goals and only needs to meet Batman to finish it. As Jenna prepares to play Peter Pan in a sketch, Liz is shocked when Dennis calls Jenna's phone and makes the same apology speech regarding their sexual history. Jack decides to humor Tracy and allow him to "fulfill" his childhood dream by elaborately faking a space-shuttle launch, and Liz confronts Jenna about sleeping with her ex, but declares that she will not allow him to destroy their "strong female friendship." Jack realizes that he is not at all "happier than ever," thanks to some unintentionally pointed comments from Kenneth and his unique worldview. Jenna and Liz find Dennis and inform him that he means nothing to either one of them, though Liz is upset to learn that their dalliance took place in her own home.
A depressed Jack dismisses all of his partygoers, including special guest Adam West, and tells Liz that he wants to recapture the innocent happiness he felt at his childhood birthday. Pete and the others work diligently to convince a blindfolded Tracy that he has arrived in Cape Canaveral, and Jenna is outraged when Liz "tries to kill her" by allowing her to crash to the ground during the Peter Pan rehearsal, though Liz suggests that they are now "even." Jack learns that the present depicted in the video had something to do with "Apollo" and buys himself an expensive lunar module model, and an excited Tracy calls in from "outer space," having been successfully fooled into believing that he is on a shuttle. Determined to win Jenna's forgiveness, Liz reluctantly allows her to tell the writers one of her more embarrassing secrets, and they are all delighted to view her somewhat-less-than-sexy "chat line" commercial from her early days as a wannabe-actress. Jack finds himself greatly amused by the video as well, and concludes that Liz is greatly important to his life. Commercials deleted.
