SUBURGATORY: THE BARBECUE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a single father and his daughter, both from New York City, trying to make a new life for themselves in the suburbs. In this episode, George and Tessa are forced to accept Sheila's dinner invitation, and Lisa apologizes in advance for her family's bizarre antics. After an awkward meal in which the Shays interrogate George about his divorce, Tessa is sent downstairs to "the rumpus room" with the other teenagers, and when Daila dares Lisa's dimwitted brother Ryan to kiss Tessa, Tessa is horrified to realize that she is attracted to him. Upstairs, Sheila and Fred inform a bewildered George that he has to have "the barbecue" or risk being ostracized by his new neighbors. In the morning, Tessa orders herself to ignore her attraction to "Neanderthal" Ryan and Lisa informs her that her behavior was "sickening," though Tessa's attempts to distract herself with a more appropriate "antidote" are unsuccessful.
Noah gallantly offers to lend George his state-of-the-art grill, and gossipy Dallas tells George about Tessa and Ryan's "first-base" antics. Tessa seeks advice from Mr. Wolfe, though he assumes that she is addicted to drugs, and during their next clandestine make-out session, Tessa is again disappointed to confirm that Ryan is exceptionally dull. George tries to ask Tessa about the incident, though she rages that he is at fault for tossing her into a strange new environment. At the barbecue, Dallas questions George about the kids and Lisa sternly reminds Tessa that her brother is "bad for her," and Noah panics when his beloved "Sally" runs out of propane. Tessa finally tells Ryan that their dalliances must end, and she is surprised when he seems genuinely hurt. George abandons tradition and fires up his old-fashioned "New York style" grill to serve the neighbors, and he and Tessa reflect on their amazement at their own strange behavior in their new home. Includes commercials and promos.
