MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO'S 9TH ANNUAL TELEVISION FESTIVAL IN LOS ANGELES, THE: BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 {PUBLIC SHORT VERSION}
Summary
One in a series of evenings and special screenings presented as part of The Museum of Television & Radio's 9th Annual Television Festival in Los Angeles. Presented with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the festival celebrates the excellence and diversity of American television, and is dedicated to television's creative community. Host Robert M. Batscha, president of the Museum of Television and Radio, welcomes the cast and the creative team from the popular series, "Beverly Hills, 90210." Batscha introduces Aaron Spelling, executive producer Charles Rosin, supervising producer Darren Star, and cast members Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty, James Eckhouse, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Luke Perry, Carol Potter, Jason Priestly, Tori Spelling, and Ian Ziering. The cast and crew answer questions from the audience and discuss a variety of topics, including the way the series has affected their lives; the way the series was put together; the future of the series; the spin-off of "Beverly Hills, 90210" entitled "Melrose Place"; the absence of African-American characters on the program, for which Spelling apologizes, with an assurance that the problem will be remedied; the possibility of a recurring gay character on the program, and the presence of a permanent gay character on "Melrose Place"; the way the show presents controversial issues, and the question of whether the producers and the network have trouble agreeing on the content of certain broadcasts; an extended dialogue concerning the 90210 dolls and the cast members' lack of influence or concern over their representation in plastic; and a discussion about whether or not the program is an accurate portrayal of life in high school. This program contains minor technical problems. This represents the best copy of this program available to the Museum.
