BODY OF PROOF: DARK CITY (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic series about compassionate Philadelphia-based medical examiner Megan Hunt and her team.

In this episode, during a commercial flight, Air Marshal John Davies begins firing his gun while experiencing hallucinations. Elsewhere, Megan and Charlie Stafford's date is dramatically interrupted when the plane crashes into the city power grid, blanketing large sections of Philadelphia in darkness. They rush to the crash site and learn that it was the marshal who caused the crash; reporter Mandy Wells tries to get some "hero shots" of Kate for the evening news. Megan guesses that the marshal experienced a seizure, while Lacey admits to her grandmother that she already knows about her mother's quest to reopen the investigation into her father's supposed suicide. Adam gathers the crash survivors as desperate family members seek answers about their loved ones; Tommy, out driving with Riley, encounters the plane's tail in a remote field and ends up crashing as he swerves to avoid the debris.

The marshal's autopsy reveals that he was on some sort of drugs, though Megan, seeing no signs of prolonged addiction, suspects foul play. Adam interviews the survivors and learns that the marshal seemed fixated on a woman in a blue scarf, Carla Mendez; Megan panics when she learns of Tommy's car crash via voicemail. Tommy and Riley, relatively unscathed, rescue flight attendant Pamela Jacks and young passenger Max from the tail. Meanwhile, Curtis and Ethan find that the morgue's electricity has been deliberately tampered with as Megan realizes that Carla's body has been stolen. Adam and Kate, at odds over the reporters' presence, are trapped in a stalled elevator together; the survivors and family members begin fighting amongst themselves as Megan announces that one of them must have stolen Carla's body and is therefore embroiled in the conspiracy that caused the crash. She bonds with Pamela's frantic husband Alex, admitting that she, too, is scared for Tommy's safety. In the elevator, Adam admits that his once-honest father's alliance with Kate's mentor, Dan Russell, led him to become corrupt and "crush the little guy," a path he hopes she will avoid. Suddenly, Carla's body falls from the elevator ceiling.

It's quickly found that Carla was a drug mule and became ill when one of the many cocaine bags inside her body burst open. Megan guesses that when the marshal noticed her condition, Carla's accomplice drugged him, leading to his hallucinations and the crash; then Carla's corpse was hidden to cover up the crime. Survivor Roberto Franco is found to be holding cocaine and is arrested; back at home, Joan tries to explain to Lacey that Megan is struggling to accept the truth of her father's suicide by crafting a murder conspiracy. At the tail crash site, Pamela advises Tommy about his Megan/Riley problem. When he finally gets through to Megan and Alex on the phone, Pam goes into ventricular tachycardia; Megan talks Tommy through an on-the-fly tracheotomy, which saves her life. When Ethan determines that the marshal was drugged with digoxin, however, Megan realizes that Pam and Alex are the ones behind the drug business and used Carla as a mule; they later framed Roberto when the ruse was uncovered. As the couple is arrested, Pamela sadly explains that she only wanted to knock the marshal out, not cause a fatal crash. Charlie gives Megan the exhumation order as she admits that she cannot "leave the past in the past," though she seems to reconsider her thoughts on Tommy when she observes his flirty banter with Riley. Includes commercials and promos.
