TRAVELER: NEW HAVEN (TV)

Summary

One in this short-lived dramatic suspense series about two Yale students framed – seemingly by their best friend -- for a terrorist bombing. In this episode, twenty-five hours after the bombing, Jay and Tyler flee from a market in upstate New York when they are recognized from the TV news report, while elsewhere Marlow and Borjes find Ellington's body at the airfield close to the Canadian border. Jay and Tyler learn of Ellington's death and realize that they will be erroneously blamed for his murder as well, and they leave false evidence suggesting that they have changed their appearances in the motel room. Tyler declares that they must cross the border into Canada, but Jay persuades him to head back to Yale, "where it all started," to find evidence to clear their names. Reporters gather outside Kim's apartment as Marlow updates Chambers, while elsewhere the Mystery Man demands an "assessment" of the events so far. Marlow correctly guesses that Jay and Tyler have planted false leads and requests permission to head back to New Haven, and as Jay and Tyler drive south in a stolen car, they hear Carlton on the radio, proclaiming his steadfast belief in his son's innocence. Jay is skeptical, pointing out that Carlton cut his son off prior to the bombing, and admits that he and Will left boxes of potentially important information at the home of Nell, Tyler's ex.

Kim's boss Roger awkwardly fires her, feeling the scandal is bringing bad publicity to the gallery, and Kim reflects on Jay's desperate search for photos clearly showing Will's face. At Nell's, Jay and Tyler find that Will's labeled boxes have vanished and been replaced with further fake evidence of their "guilt," including Drexler Museum floor plans and chemical engineering notes. Nell catches them in the act and assures them that she does not believe them to be terrorists, while elsewhere Chambers confronts Carlton, accusing him of interfering with the investigation into his son. Amy prints out a photograph clearly depicting Will, though a mysterious bleached-blond man bumps into her on the way out of the store. As Jay prepares to burn the fake evidence, Tyler bitterly suggests that Nell only feigned interest in him in order to land a job with his father, though she manages to convince him otherwise. Tyler then recalls spotting Will in the basement of the cross-campus library four months previously, even though he would not logically have had an office there, and when Nell warns them that the police are coming to question her, Jay requests that she contact Kim for him before fleeing. Marlow and Borjes arrive shortly thereafter and spot the burning material, guessing that Jay and Tyler have just left, though Nell refuses to talk.

Amy tries to tell Chambers about her proof of Will's existence, but finds that the photo of him has somehow vanished. Jay and Tyler search the library basement and find what seems to be Will's "stash point," including a large amount of cash, a train schedule for Deer Harbor and a gun, among other clues. Marlow and Borjes then corner them, but they escape through the tunnels below the school. Amy furiously attacks a Post reporter who photographs her, and the Mystery Man receives Kim's photo of Will from the bleached-blond man, noting that Will "left them quite a mess." Elsewhere, Will is revealed to be alive as he presents the stolen Trumbull painting to an unknown man, stating that he "wants to know what he has." Includes commercials.
