BROTHERS & SISTERS: DOUBLE NEGATIVE (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about the California-based Walker family, an adult clan of siblings trying to live up to their parents' lofty expectations after the death of the family patriarch.

In this episode, Robert and Kitty try to determine which eggs appear the most likely implants. However, they both remain distracted while wondering why Boyd is coming to their house later. Kitty is sure he'll ask Robert to be his running mate. At the Walker household, Sarah, Tommy, Kevin, Justin, and Rebecca make brunch for Nora, assuming that she's depressed about her aborted romance with Isaac. Nora tells them she's fine, but her plan to meet with an interior designer indicates otherwise to them. Later, Rebecca tells Justin that she's about to get her DNA results, and doesn't know what she'll do if William isn't her father.

Boyd arrives early and gets into a contentious discussion with Kitty. When Robert gets home from his jog, Boyd cuts to the chase and asks him to be his vice president. Elsewhere, Scotty shows Kevin his $2,500 hospital bill while bemoaning his lack of insurance. When Kevin goes surfing later with Justin and Tommy, they suggest that Kevin enter a domestic partnership with Scotty so that he'll have benefits. Elsewhere, Holly and David's romance heats up as Rebecca arrives at the house. After Holly leaves for work, Rebecca reveals the test results to David, which confirm that he's her father. David admits that he had suspicions, even as Rebecca rails against Holly and feels that her happiness has been destroyed. At Ojai, Saul tells Sarah that he went ahead with Graham's expansion deal over her objections, stating that she should have faith in his choices.

That evening, the Walkers attend a cancer fund-raiser where Nora meets Ellen Snyder, whose son has leukemia. Ellen expresses her gratitude for all Nora's efforts. As the festivities continue, the Walker children face their own issues: Sarah fights with Graham about the deal; Kevin half-heartedly proposes to Scotty, who politely declines the offer; Rebecca lies to Justin and says the tests proved William to be her father; and Kitty tells a confused Robert that he should turn down Boyd's offer. Kitty also relates their doctor's latest report: none of their eggs are viable. At Holly's house, David breaks Holly's heart with his declaration that he's immediately returning to New York City, saying their reunion was a nostalgic lark. Later, Rebecca remains stoic when Holly tells her the news. Back at the Walkers, Nora describes to Sarah how she'd like to find homes to offer people like Ellen and her son. Sarah says that Ojai will sponsor Nora's actions.

The next morning, Robert meets with Boyd and, after much soul-searching, opts not to be his vice president. Boyd then tells Kitty that Robert will ultimately blame her for his decision. Robert contradicts him, noting that he wants to concentrate on starting a family with her. Finally, an embarrassed Sarah apologizes to Graham and Saul for her actions. However, they interrupt her to relay that their deal has fallen through and put the company in grave jeopardy. Includes commercials.
