UGLY BETTY: ICING ON THE CAKE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about Betty Suarez, a young Queens woman trying to make it in the fashion industry despite her unglamorous appearance.
In this episode, Betty gets new braces from Dr. Gabe Farkus, who can't hide his affection for her. However, Betty's heart still belongs to Henry, despite the recent appearance of Charlie. Back at the office, Betty reluctantly accepts Henry's invitation to attend Charlie's birthday party that night. Later, Christina makes Betty ask Gabe to be her date. Elsewhere at Mode, Alexis fails in an attempt at detente with Wilhelmina. Instead, Wilhelmina charges Marc with finding a way to drive a wedge between Daniel and Alexis. Marc also observes as Amanda receives a tube-like rubber dress from designer Oswald Lorenzo, with a note declaring that Amanda is his "new muse." Later that afternoon, Daniel brings Claire to a hotel, to keep her away from Grace, fearing that Claire will tell Grace that she killed Fey. In the Suarez household, Ignacio tries to put off Constance's unwanted advances as she again postpones discussing the status of his green card.
As Amanda tries to walk around the office in her ridiculously uncomfortable dress, Daniel admits to Betty that he's sleeping with Grace against his better judgment. Betty accidentally tells the news to Christina, who is subsequently blackmailed into spilling the beans by Wilhelmina. When Alexis learns that Grace is defending Bradford, Daniel denies knowing her. He's then pulled away from the office after learning that Grace is dining with Claire. He intercedes and makes Claire leave the restaurant. Across town, Betty and Gabe arrive at Charlie's party as they awkwardly make small talk with Henry and Charlie. Betty is interrupted by Claire, who insists that Betty bring her a credit card so that she can depart the country. Things are equally tough for Ignacio, who confides to Hilda and Justin that Constance is sexually harassing him. Hilda takes matters into her own hands by telling Constance that Ignacio is seeing other women.
Wilhelmina ensures that Alexis learns of Daniel and Grace's amorous romps. Alexis subsequently storms into Daniel's apartment, where she finds the two in bed. Alexis quickly blackmails Grace into recusing herself from the case, after which Daniel tells a shocked Alexis that Claire, not Bradford, is Fey's killer. Claire shows up at Betty's house, where she tells everyone about her part in Fey's death, including a horrified Gabe. However, Constance assumes that Claire is Ignacio's mistress and starts a shoving match with her. When Ignacio intervenes, Constance slaps a tracking monitor on him to "defuse" any future liaisons with other women. In the meantime, Gabe takes off after telling Betty that he knows about her feelings for Henry. Betty then telephones Daniel to come get Claire. Before he arrives, Claire calls the police and confesses to Fey's murder, getting Bradford released. An amused Wilhelmina and Marc watch news reports with a dismayed Christina.
The next morning, Amanda receives a rubber hat that resembles a dunce cap to complement her rubber dress, not realizing that both presents were sent in revenge by Oswald's scorned girlfriend to make her look ridiculous. Finally, Henry approaches Betty with another invitation to join him and Charlie for the evening. Following up on a vow she made with Claire about moving past the men that hurt them, she tearfully tells Henry that they can no longer be friends. Includes commercials.
