BROTHERS & SISTERS: PRIOR COMMITMENTS {SEASON TWO FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about the California-based Walker family, an adult clan of siblings trying to live up to their parents' lofty expectations after the death of the family patriarch.
In this episode, Nora and Justin tell Tommy, Sarah, and Kitty about Rebecca's parentage just as Kevin arrives to announce his engagement to Scotty. He says that the ceremony will be held that weekend and each family member has a related task. As Tommy and Justin immediately plan Kevin's bachelor party, Nora assures Rebecca that she will remain part of their family -- starting with attending the wedding. After Kitty relays the family's news to Robert, she confirms that she wants to continue trying to get pregnant, despite the doctor's report that their most recent attempts failed.
At Ojai, Sarah accuses Holly of deceiving the Walkers about Rebecca's father with the sole intent of becoming one of William's beneficiaries. Sarah threatens to sue for fraud as Tommy maintains that they all have to work together and that the merger's terms can't be reversed. Elsewhere, Kevin is saddened to hear that Scotty's parents won't attend the ceremony. He then recalls William awkwardly dealing with having a gay son. In lieu of a bachelor party, Tommy and Justin offer to drive Kevin to Arizona to ask Scotty's mother and father to be part of the event.
As Sarah seeks evidence against Holly, she finds an old baby picture kept by William, presumably of Rebecca. Sarah recalls first seeing the photo with Joe and puzzling over its origins. Meanwhile, Kevin meets Bertha Wandell, who stresses that she won't celebrate "a contrived event" which "insults" the institution of marriage. However, her husband, Wally, asks Kevin to give Scotty a present: the cuff links he wore at his own wedding. When Scotty receives the cuff links from Kevin, he's overcome with both anger and love. The ceremony then proceeds with all the Walkers in attendance and Kitty officiating.
As the reception gets underway, Rebecca apologizes to Justin and he asks that they start over. Later, Rebecca tells Sarah that she isn't the subject of the baby picture. Sarah quickly gathers the siblings together and tells them her theory: that the photo is of another Walker, an illegitimate child of William's whose picture he always kept. As all the siblings voice dissent, Saul interrupts and mistakenly thinks they're talking about his sexuality. He shocks the room by addressing being gay. All the commotion causes Kitty to reconsider her priorities, after which she tells Robert that she'd be happy to adopt.
Later that night, Kevin flashes back to another scene with his father, recalling that he saw his father handling the mysterious baby photo, then discussing the child's late mother with a business friend and referring to the child as Ryan. After sharing the development with Sarah, Kevin reveals to Nora that William had another child. Finally, Justin and Rebecca meet on a hiking trail's vista point and both realize that they're in love.
