MIDDLE, THE: HALLOWEEN IV: THE GHOST STORY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about an "average" middle-aged wife in a small Indiana town who struggles with her husband, an often-frustrating job, and the raising of three children.
In this episode, college freshmen Axl and Hutch endure hazing from the football team as the entire family attempts to advise the clueless Brick on wooing his crush, Harper. Sue holds a "team-bonding sleepover" with her fellow cheerleaders and, during a séance, attempts to summon the spirit of Christopher Columbus. Axl and Hutch resolve to throw a Halloween party to reclaim their previous high-school cool status, and Frankie and Mike are taken aback when Sue ecstatically tells them that she made a connection with the spirit world and saw a ghostly vision of the Santa Maria during the sleepover. Axl and Hutch find themselves banned from their own party, and Frankie and Mike, hiding from voracious trick-or-treaters, wonder how best to advise Sue to keep her outlandish tale to herself in order to avoid mockery from others.
Brick, dressed as a bookmark, returns home from the Halloween dance and casually describes his catastrophic "date" with Harper. When Axl and Hutch finally hit it off with two attractive lady pirates, they are relieved to finally be "taking back their cool" – but the older football players soon intervene once again. Frankie and Mike try to tell their daughter, who is happily writing a school newspaper article about the successful "Sue-ance," that her supernatural encounter likely did not happen. But when Mike offhandedly reveals that he, too, once had an unexpected visit from his late grandmother, Sue's strong belief that "anything is possible" begins to hit home for the rest of the Heck family. Includes commercials and promos.
