BOARDWALK EMPIRE: TWO IMPOSTERS (TV)
Summary
One in this historical drama series based on the nonfiction book by Nelson Johnson about the gangsters and bootleggers who rose to power in Atlantic City during the years of Prohibition. In this episode, still stunned by the late-night "delivery" of Owen's body, Eddie informs Nucky that Margaret has left with the children, claiming that he did not know about the affair. They find that the phone lines are dead, and Rosetti's men soon storm the house and Nucky and Eddie return fire and make a narrow escape. As they drive away from the scene, Nucky realizes that Eddie has been shot. Rosetti searches Nucky's empty office and demands that he be found, while in New York, Luciano attempts to sell off his heroin to a silent stranger, Sam Moceri. Richard returns from his blissful night on the beach with Julia and finds Gillian in his room, and she immediately deduces that he is in love. Finding that the hospital too is unsafe, Nucky takes Eddie to Chalky's home and asks for his help in saving him and in warding off Rosetti, and Chalky agrees that he is safe for the time being.
Rosetti barges into the Artemis Club with his men, bringing along Nucky's desk and implying to Gillian that Nucky is dead. He informs her that he is now her "pal in charge," and though she feigns comfort with the arrangement, she orders Richard to hide Tommy upstairs. Nucky attempts to contact Torrio in Chicago and Chalky summons his future son-in-law, Samuel, and asks him to treat Eddie, though the young man protests that he is only a medical student. Lansky voices his doubt over Luciano's arrangement with the unknown Moceri, but Luciano tells him about Masseria's murder of Owen and insists that they must clear their debt right away. Rosetti arrives outside Chalky's home as Samuel works on Eddie, and though Rosetti is polite and offers to "treat him good" when he takes over Atlantic City, Chalky refuses to assist him and denies that Nucky is inside, even when Rosetti offers a large reward. Back inside, Nucky asks Chalky what his true price will be, and Chalky reiterates his desire for a nightclub on the boardwalk. Gillian grows increasingly frustrated with the presence of Rosetti's men and then discovers that Richard intends to take Tommy to Julia's without her knowledge. Furious, she informs him that he is "not a complete person" and throws him from the house without Tommy.
Nucky tends to a delirious Eddie, surprised to learn that he has a wife and two sons back in Germany and struck with guilt at Eddie's unswerving loyalty to him. When Luciano attempts to complete the heroin sale, the not-so-silent Moceri reveals that he is a cop and arrests him. Nucky hides in a truck and heads up White Horse Pike, and he and Purnsley execute more of Rosetti's men when they are stopped on the road. Nucky declares that he is not leaving town after all, and seeks refuge in the lumber yard where his nephew Willie is employed. Elsewhere, Richard methodically sorts through his large arsenal. Nucky agrees to give Chalky his club, and the two unlikely allies agree that they are "stuck with each other." Hearing cars outside, they believe that Rosetti has found them again, but it turns out to be reinforcements from the black community loyal to Chalky as well as Eli and Al, who have driven from Chicago to "sit down and talk about who dies."
