MODERN FAMILY: CLOSETCON '13 (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Claire and Jay head to a closet convention as Mitchell suffers through a trip to the Tucker farm in Missouri. Gloria notices that Alex and Haley like the same guy, pizza-delivery boy Chuck, and when Phil discovers Jay's secret stash of model ships and planes, he ends up breaking his priceless Apollo 13 replica. Claire begins to wonder if her dad used the annual conventions to carry on an affair in the past, though Jay is more interested in pranking his "rookie" daughter with a toy skeleton, and Cam finally confronts Mitchell about his city-boy attitude, upset that he views his home as "a joke." Gloria tries to break up Alex and Haley's squabble, though the two soon end up stuck together when their hair catches in one of the model airplanes. Cam panics when his old-fashioned grandmother arrives, as she has never been told that he is gay, and he begs Mitchell, who is attempting to get into the Missouri spirit, to pretend to be "Bud," a simpleminded farmhand.
Phil contacts his father for help in repairing the model, and Claire misunderstands Jay's conversation with his old pal Rita, unaware that Jay once convinced her to offer Phil a job in Texas in order to get him out of his daughter's life. Alex and Haley both attempt to disguise their hairy situation as they flirt with Chuck, and when a tornado drives everyone into the cellar, Cam finally decides to tell Grams the truth about "Bud" and his "little Chinese girl" – with mixed results. Gloria easily frees Alex and Haley from their bind as soon as they make amends, and when Claire confronts her father about his "affair" with Rita, she is outraged to find that he actually schemed to get rid of her fiancé – though Jay then reminds her about a certain "anonymous tip" to Immigration. Everyone is overjoyed when Phil puts the finishing touches on the Apollo model, though Joe soon makes matters worse with the model plane, and Claire's attempts to scare the hyper-vigilant Phil with the pretend skeleton prove unsuccessful. Includes commercials and promos.
