JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! {KRISTIN CHENOWETH, CLORIS LEACHMAN, ALKALINE TRIO} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of live late-night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This episode's guests include actresses Kristin Chenoweth, Cloris Leachman and musical guest Alkaline Trio.

After a chat with "Erin," the animated Esurance spokeswoman, Kimmel delivers his opening monologue and touches on the following topics, among others: Leachman's elimination from "Dancing With the Stars," having been the show's oldest contestant to date; fellow contestant Julianne Hough's emergency appendectomy; the upcoming presidential election, for which Democratic nominee Barack Obama is strongly in the lead over Republican Senator John McCain; West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd's confusing comments about VP nominee Joe Biden; the recent nuptials of Manuel Uribe, the self-proclaimed "fattest man in the world"; and the approach of Halloween, for which Kimmel regulars Uncle Frank, Veatrice Rice and Guillermo Rodriguez offer some semi-helpful safety advice.

Next, celebrity-obsessed Jake Byrd (portrayed by comedian and staff writer Tony Barbieri) expounds about his love for "stone fox" Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, and he attends a rally in Beaver, Pennsylvania and chats with a number of McCain/Palin supporters, offering some nonsensical praise for his favorite politicians.

The first guest, Chenoweth, chats with Kimmel about her role as Glinda in the popular Broadway musical "Wicked" and her wide assortment of devoted fans; an incident involving her old-fashioned Southern parents and a Carnegie Hall performance; her Halloween plans with her somewhat younger boyfriend; the advantages of her petite stature and youthful appearance; her new holiday album, "A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas"; and her enjoyment of her role on the ABC comedy/fantasy series "Pushing Daisies."

Next, Leachman joins Kimmel and discusses her family's reaction to her "Dancing" appearance; her considerable energy at the age of 82; and her thoughts on dance partner Corky Ballas. Rodriguez then "burns" her dancing shoes.

Finally, Alkaline Trio performs "Calling All Skeletons" and "In Vein" from their new album "Agony & Irony." Includes commercials and promos.
