MAMA'S FAMILY: THE WEDDING: PART 2 (TV)
Summary
Continued from ACCNUM 115182. One in this comedy series, inspired by the sketch on "The Carol Burnett Show," about the cantankerous "Mama" Thelma Harper and her troublemaking family.
In the second half of this two-part episode, on the day of the wedding, Thelma presents Vint with his late father's sapphire ring as a present, urging him not to tell Eunice about it. Buzz, Sonja and Fran fight over the limited bathroom space as Eunice and Ed arrive with a snack – chili dogs; Thelma sternly orders Eunice not to spoil the day with any mentions of Bruce's affair or her own desperate desire to sing a solo. Naomi seeks Ed's advice on handling the wacky Harper family and requests that he give her away during the ceremony. Eunice pleads with Vint to "let bygones be bygones" and allow her to sing after all.
Ellen returns and cheerfully reveals that Bruce has made amends to her with a brand-new Cadillac. When Eunice laments that she has never participated in a real wedding, having eloped with Ed, Naomi relents and allows her to sing – but Eunice is outraged when Naomi then shows her the sapphire ring. As the guests begin to arrive, Eunice "hits the sauce" and furiously confronts Thelma about the ring, swearing that her father intended it to be hers. The ceremony soon gets underway, complete with long-winded personalized vows. Eunice uses her musical "solo" as a chance to lambaste her family, including "weasel" Ellen. Ed is finally forced to drag her out of the house. Later, Thelma and Fran are relieved to realize that the house is finally back to its former state of peace and quiet. But the newlyweds soon return, sheepishly admitting that they were swindled and there is no Arizona trailer park, meaning that they must move into Thelma's already overstuffed home. Commercials deleted.
