MAMA'S FAMILY: FAMILY FEUD (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, inspired by the sketch on "The Carol Burnett Show," about the cantankerous "Mama" Thelma Harper and her troublemaking family.
In this episode, Vinton excitedly announces that he has landed a spot on the popular game show "Family Feud." Thelma, naturally, dislikes the idea, though she quickly changes her mind when Vinton points out that he and Naomi could use their winnings to find a home of their own. She proves somewhat inept at guessing the "top answers" during a practice round, but the Harpers head for California all the same and square off against the snooty Van Courtland family and kiss-happy host Richard Dawson.
Matters immediately go awry when Thelma shouts out her first answer without hitting the buzzer; when the Van Courtlands opt to play the first round, she unintentionally assists them to victory. In the next rounds, the Harpers do relatively well in naming the most popular items "that come in flakes" and "things that you wind up," but Thelma again ruins things by guessing that one can "wind up" a letter. Later, the Harpers gather to watch their television appearance, and Thelma is grateful when a well-timed power outage spares them the indignity of reliving their loss. Commercials deleted.
