LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN {AL GORE, ROCK KILLS KID} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by David Letterman. This program features former Vice President Al Gore and musical guest Rock Kills Kid. In his opening monologue, Letterman touches upon the following topics: the official consolidation of New York City in 1898; Mick Fleetwood's birthday; a recent study declaring that age brings happiness; an unmanned crime-prevention drone in Los Angeles; and illusionist David Blaine's latest wild stunt.
Letterman then tells a long and involved joke about his friend "Fred's" attempts to reenter the dating world after divorcing his wife of 30 years; greets two "Sweeds" who stop by for a fan photo; and talks with assistant Stephanie Birkitt, who describes her ex-boyfriend's terrible dancing skills.
After an ad for some "Al-Qaeda fundraising" ringtones, Letterman sits down with Gore, who discusses the following topics: why he is "not worth killing anymore" and is no longer monitored by the Secret Service; his new documentary and book about climate change, "An Inconvenient Truth" (2006); the "flawed decision-making" that led to the invasion of Iraq and the need to bring the troops home; why he supported the first Gulf War; Saddam Hussein's lack of involvement in the September 11th attacks; why America needs a "fresh team" in Washington to repair the damage caused by the wars; the North Korean dictatorship and the threat of nuclear war; inspiration from his college professor Roger Revelle, one of the first scientists to measure the rates of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere; his frustration at most people's lack of concern for his dire findings; why American companies are resisting the switch to environmentally safe processes despite the potential for additional revenue; the need for American voters to demand action from their politicians; America's outsized contributions to the damage to the ozone layer; the various dangers of global warming, including stronger storms and the transportation of tropical diseases; the film's success so far; and why he does not intend to run for political office again. A clip from "An Inconvenient Truth" is also shown.
Finally, punk band Rock Kills Kid performs "Paralyzed" from their album "Are You Nervous?" Includes commercials and promos. Asset cuts off abruptly before closing credits.
