BROTHERS & SISTERS: GOING ONCE ... GOING TWICE (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about the California-based Walker family, an adult clan of siblings trying to live up to their parents' lofty expectations after the death of the family patriarch.

In this episode, when Scotty is promoted to head chef, Sarah decides to throw a family dinner in his honor. While Kevin is happy for him, he feels downtrodden after realizing that his paycheck from Robert is a quarter of what he made as a lawyer. When visiting with Nora, Kevin insists on accompanying her to an auction for houses, one of which she hopes to purchase for her non-profit. Later, Robert tells Kevin that Kitty is depressed about what happened with Trish, inspiring Nora, Sarah, and Tommy to have a joint phone call to figure out how to help her. Ultimately, they decide that Sarah should ask Kitty for help with her Greenatopia proposal. As it turns out, Kitty is more than happy to peruse Sarah's work. Meanwhile, Justin attends a Narcotics Anonymous meeting where Paul, a gay and garrulous former drug addict, speaks. Justin subsequently decides to fix Paul up with Saul by inviting Paul to Scotty's dinner. While Rebecca is skeptical of the idea, Holly pretends to be enthusiastic.

At the auction, Kevin talks Nora out of purchasing her first choice for a house. And when Nora's second choice is on the block, Kevin impulsively buys it for himself and Scotty. Across town, Paul shows up early at Sarah's house and makes himself a nuisance while telling anyone who will listen about the intimacies of his life. Kitty also drops by early to critique Sarah's proposal, which Sarah finds off-putting. After all the guests have congregated, Saul itells Justin that he is less than pleased by Justin's matchmaking. After everyone toasts Scotty, Kevin announces his house purchase. Scotty becomes immediately uncomfortable and leaves, while Nora unleashes her fury at Kevin for bulldozing all around him; she then storms out.

Afterward, Kitty and Sarah address their disagreement, with Kitty taking umbrage at having been assigned "busy work." Kevin also faces turmoil when going home. Scotty tells him that he's tired of Kevin insisting on being the provider and thinks Kevin feels threatened about them being equals since he's now making a good salary. Across town, Justin stops by Saul's home and Saul informs him that there's no hope for a relationship with the annoying Paul. He also announces that he's started seeing someone but hasn't told the family.

The next day, Kevin insists that Nora meet him at the house that he bought. There, he says that he will sell the house to her immediately, causing Nora to declare that all is forgiven. At the same time, Kitty tells Robert that she's starting to come out of her funk, and hopes that he will be more direct with her in the future. Finally, Kevin takes a delighted Scotty to the bank, where they open a joint account. Includes commercials.
