DIRTY SEXY MONEY: THE INJURED PARTY (TV)

Summary

On in this drama series about a troubled lawyer whose life is overtaken by his employers: a super-rich, morally-challenged family in New York City. In this episode, Simon intercepts Nick's phone call to Karen, and Nick and Lisa agree to end their trial separation and talk things through. Simon offers Lisa a recording of Nick and Karen together, but she coldly turns him down. Tripp is frustrated when Patrick appoints Nola as his new Chief of Staff, particularly when she states that they will "avoid the spotlight" by focusing on agricultural issues, and Jeremy too is angered to see his brother working with his ex. Elsewhere, an elated Tish hits a cyclist with her car, and Tripp quickly hides the young woman, Wrenn, in the penthouse, fearful that she will expose the family to more embarrassment, though she tells Nick that she has no interest in suing. Andrea receives grave news about her cancer and decides to forgo further treatment, though Brian uses his family name to demand that she is given a spot in a risky new drug trial. Jeremy confronts Nola, declaring that she is "obsessed" with his family, and on their "date," Nick agrees to keep away from Karen, assuring Lisa that he regards her only as a client and not as his ex-lover. He then visits Simon, however, who shows him the tape of himself with Karen and makes it clear that he will blackmail him if necessary.

Karen prepares for a family dinner, and Simon updates Nola, ordering her to keep an eye on things. Brian and Andrea's fight about the cancer trial turns romantic, and Tripp begins to bond with Wrenn, explaining that he has always considered Tish to be "the girl of his dreams." Nick sits down with Karen and tells her firmly that he cannot be with her, as he wishes to make things right with Lisa – but Lisa, learning of their meeting and misunderstanding, calls Simon and demands the tape. At dinner, Tripp toasts to "second chances" as Tish notices his closeness with "the con artist," and Jeremy saunters in with two young women, trying to make Nola jealous. Tish assures Nola that there are "no hard feelings" about her prosecution and hints that Nola's fling with Jeremy was "no mistake," and Tripp and Patrick continue arguing about his political plans. Lisa arrives in a rage and gets into a huge fight with Karen, accusing her of trying to steal her husband away, and though Nick tries to break it up, Lisa tearfully states that he is "where he's meant to be" with the Darlings and ends their marriage for good. Nola berates Jeremy for his mother's involvement in their romance, but he suggests that she is using Patrick to get close to him, which she cannot expressly deny without revealing her secret.

Andrea changes her mind about the trial, not wanting to leave Brian Jr. to the whims of the outrageous Darling family, and a heartbroken Lisa seeks comfort with Jeremy. Nick confides in Wrenn, telling her all about his love triangle with Karen and Lisa, and they end up sharing a kiss when she suggests that he is hard to "get over." Patrick seems unconcerned with Nola's apparent interest in his brother, though when she tells Simon that she is "too involved" with the Darlings, he threatens her and reminds her of his mysterious hold over her missing brother. Nick is baffled when Tripp regards Wrenn and wonder if Tish is really "the one" for him after all, and Nick confronts Simon again, furious at his treatment of Karen and vowing to bring him down.
