JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE!: BEHIND THE SCANDALABRA {CAST OF "SCANDAL"} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of live late-night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This episode celebrates the cast of "Scandal," the drama/political thriller about the Pope & Associates crisis management firm in Washington D.C., which has just aired its third season finale, "The Price of Free and Fair Elections" (see ACCNUM 115756).
Kimmel sits down with series creator Shonda Rhimes, who discussions how she wishes the tense thriller to be a show that one cannot multitask while watching; a heated debate in the writers' room about a significant plot development involving Jake (Scott Foley); her role as "tiebreaker" during such story disagreements; seemingly far-fetched storylines that then "came true" in real life; and the non-traditional romance between co-workers Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes).
Kimmel then introduces "¡Escandalo!", a parody version of "Scandal" in the style of a melodramatic telenovela, starring frequent sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez as El Presidente. Through the program, the cast members of "Scandal" appear in a variety of Spanish-language scenes involving affairs, poison darts, scheming luchadores, and a mysterious undercover mole.
Rhimes continues her behind-the-scenes chat with Kimmel, commenting on the potential death of Harrison (Columbus Short); her difficult job as the "Grim Reaper" who has to call every actor personally and inform him or her of the demise of their character; co-star Josh Malina's frequent pranks; and the campaign poster of Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) in Olivia's (Kerry Washington) office, inspired by the Obama "Hope" poster by Shepard Fairey. Kimmel then introduces a series of clips of his favorite moments from interviews with the "Scandal" cast, including tales of crazy fans and not-so-glamorous past jobs.
Kimmel and Rhimes settle down at Olivia's apartment and enjoy a series of bloopers from the show, aided by wine and popcorn provided by Foley. In the "season finale" of "¡Escandalo!", Kimmel is revealed to be the mole and is attacked by a chupacabra – revealed to be Rodriguez's father. He then sits down with a disguised "informant," who provides bizarre gossip on every cast member apart from Malina, whom he deems to be a delight. Finally, all of the cast members appear in an advertisement for the probably-deadly beverage Jugo de Jicama. Includes commercials and promos.
