SCANDAL: FLESH AND BLOOD (TV)

Summary

One in this drama/political thriller about the Pope & Associates crisis management firm in Washington D.C.

Olivia, President Grant, Jake, and Cyrus argue about the plan to dissolve B613 and the repercussions of its revelation, including the danger that the incident surrounding Maya could be made public. Jake reveals that Maya and Salif were able to bring in a team of terrorists to act on an unspecified threat due to files Salif obtained from Olivia’s computer. The assembled party feels that they have no choice but to call in Rowan to help them resolve the situation. He identifies the bomb-maker in Maya’s party as Dominic Bell, a notorious mercenary, and believes that he and his team can track him. Olivia and Rowan convince President Grant to cancel a trip to Ohio in order to ensure his safety. Quinn assures Charlie that she would not even consider returning to Pope & Associates. However, Charlie is surprised when he learns that he has been assigned to go to the Pope & Associates offices, and he and Quinn arrive there in the middle of the meeting. Tensions between Jake and Rowan are high and Olivia reluctantly asks Jake to leave to prevent Rowan from doing so. He walks out warning Olivia that Rowan has not changed and that she is making a huge mistake.

Leo confers with high school student Mackenzie Miller as part of his scheme, and is informed by Vice-President Langston that Senator Hightower has just passed away. Cyrus advises President Grant to deliver the eulogy at his funeral as a means of accruing political capital before the election, but President Grant is still worried about the impending attempt on his life. Maya readies a bomb and passes out the files she got from Olivia. Charlie and Huck argue about how to go about tracking down Bell, and Quinn finds that she is caught between them. President Grant calls Olivia to tell her that he intends to deliver the eulogy, but she forbids him from doing so. They argue about the matter, and Olivia points out that President Grant’s father died four years ago that day. President Grant expresses doubt that he can legitimately win the election but Olivia believes in him and says his survival is paramount. He agrees to stay in the White House, and he and his staff engage in some last-minute campaigning.

Huck tracks down Bell and brings him bound and gagged to the Pope & Associates office. Mackenzie seduces President Grant’s son, Fitzgerald Grant IV, and gives Leo a condom filled with his semen. Rowan, Olivia, and Huck interrogate Bell, who claims that he does not know where his bomb will be placed. Olivia is curious when Bell remarks that he has met Olivia before, but Rowan does not explain anything to her. Leo informs Rowan of his progress, but Rowan immediately tells Olivia what Leo is planning. Olivia confronts Mellie, who apparently has asked for a paternity test to be done on Fitzgerald IV. Olivia believes that one of Mellie’s children was fathered by Andrew, and Mellie is shocked at this questioning. Olivia demands that Mellie be truthful with her, and Mellie admits that she is deliberately trying to sabotage the election, as she is tired of keeping the secret of her son’s true father and has become unhinged due to President Grant’s philandering. However, during her rant Mellie lets it slip out that she was raped by President Grant’s father, and that this is a contributing factor to her desire for a paternity test.

David finds Jake waiting in his office for him, demanding that he help him locate Maya. Bell’s bomb is armed and planted in a furnace room. When Bell is not forthcoming with information Rowan decides to adopt more aggressive interrogation methods; he reveals to Olivia that Bell is “the only man [her] mother ever loved.” Rowan intimidates Bell into calling Maya via Russian Roulette. She gives them no information and Huck is unable to trace her phone. Rowan throws everyone out of the room and shoots Bell dead, horrifying Olivia. Abby and Harrison clean up Bell’s body and at Rowan’s request Abby obtains a hair strand from Bell; Rowan sends this to Leo, claiming that it is a sample of President Grant’s DNA. Abby bribes a genetics lab into claiming that the DNA is a match. This information is passed on to Vice-President Langston, who abandons her belief that Fitzgerald IV’s paternity is in question. Olivia calls Jake and they talk about their relationship and his position as Command. He believes that she truly loves him, but she claims she was only using him to get information. She is still traumatized over Rowan murdering Bell and Maya’s refusal to save him. She also recalls seeing her mother with Bell when she was a child, realizing that she had a lifelong love affair with him. Olivia says she is still in love with President Grant, but she feels she “betrayed” him via her feelings for Jake. She hangs up on him without resolving anything.

President Grant’s cancellation of campaign events diminishes the potential support for his election. He decides that he has had enough and changes his mind about the appearance in Ohio, specifically in Defiance County. Olivia confronts Rowan about the murder of Bell, he expresses no regret about it, explaining that he has been waiting to kill Bell for many years. He rants that Bell ordered Maya to marry him in order to collect information, and that their marriage was entirely a sham. Charlie and Huck argue about how to dispose of Bell’s body until Quinn gets frustrated and decides to dispose of the body herself. Olivia discovers that President Grant has left the White House and Rowan suggests that she attend alongside him; he believes that the only person Maya truly loves is Olivia, and that she will not kill the president if it means that Olivia will die as well. Harrison discovers that the bomb has been planted in Defiance County High School, but he is cornered by one of Maya’s team before he can inform anyone. Olivia arrives at the high school in the middle of a pro-Grant rally. While President Grant is giving his speech, Olivia tells Mellie that she can still arrange for the paternity test if that is her desire.

Quinn refuses to tell Huck how she disposed of Bell’s body. They suddenly start making out as Quinn gets Huck to admit that he wants her. They have sex in the parking lot, not noticing when Maya walks into the Pope & Associates office where Rowan is watching President Grant’s speech on television. She demands that he get Olivia out of the auditorium and Rowan calls to tell her that the bomb is set to go off and she has little time to spare. She informs President Grant of this fact and he claims to the audience that a minor mechanical malfunction has occurred and that they must evacuate the building. However, Harrison is told by his captor that the bomb is not actually at the school and that they altered their plans. Olivia returns to her office to find Rowan bleeding out on the floor, and Huck and Quinn soon arrive to assist her.

David tracks down information on Maya and relays it to Jake; he informs Cyrus that Maya killed Senator Hightower in order to draw President Grant out of the White House. The bomb has actually been planted beneath the church where the funeral is to the take place. Cyrus agrees to have the FBI clear the place and to keep President Grant at the White House. However, he decides to allow Vice-President Langston to go to the funeral without informing her of anything, hoping that the explosion will kill her and thus secure the election for President Grant. Mellie receives the faked paternity test, confusing her. Maya remotely activates the bomb’s countdown with her phone, giving it an hour before it detonates. Cyrus concocts an excuse to delay President Grant’s arrival to the church. Includes commercials.
