BLACK-ISH: CRAZY MOM (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about an affluent black family and their attempts to maintain their cultural identity.
In this episode, Dre is annoyed not to receive proper "credit" from Rainbow for performing basic household chores, and he decides to take over her usual parenting duties for a week to prove his capability. He is pleased when the other parents and kids lavish praise upon him when he arrives at school with cupcakes, though Pops warns him against defying his socially-accepted parental "role." Later in the week, his "rock-star" behavior is regarded with less interest; one mom warns him that hands-on parents are often taken for granted. Elsewhere, Rainbow tries to enjoy some rare free time and annoys her kids with her hovering. Dre, irked at being outshone by another school dad, ends up making a scene when he loudly critiques a lesson on Harriet Tubman.
Rainbow is exasperated to learn of Dre's antics at school and informs him that he is now the class "Crazy Mom" and a "praise junkie." He counters that she is a "control freak" who does not appreciate his efforts. After some further advice from Pops, he enlists the kids to over-praise Rainbow's unsung daily efforts in an effort to smooth things over. She quickly sees through the ruse, but they soon make up, agreeing to pay more attention to one another's helpful deeds. Includes commercials.
