BLACK-ISH: THE TALK (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about an affluent black family and their attempts to maintain their cultural identity.

In this episode, Dre is horrified when he walks in on Junior having a private solo moment, though Rainbow, who was raised by "hippies," is unconcerned about the teen's natural maturing process and reveals that she already had "the talk" with him. Elsewhere, however, Rainbow is upset when Zoey declines to confide in her about her apparently "totally world-ending" personal problems. Mr. Stevens and Pops both prove unhelpful when Dre seeks their manly advice. When Zoey finally asks for Rainbow's wisdom, she is too distracted by her pride in her mothering skills to listen. Dre approaches Junior for a very non-uptight conversation, piquing Jack and Diane's curiosity. Dre soon brags to Rainbow that he "nailed it" in teaching his son the ways of adult males, though she is skeptical that he actually imparted any genuine wisdom.

Jack and Diane feel increasingly ignored as Rainbow struggles to figure out Zoey's exact problems, and Dre, realizing that he has opened a "revolving door" of endless uncomfortable questions from Junior, begins avoiding his son at every turn. Rainbow eventually admits her error to Zoey, who reveals that she has already sought Pops' wisdom. However, Pops states that he was baffled by her teenage woes. Dre finally tells Junior that they must keep their conversations to "the big stuff" and leave the awkward details to Rainbow; he goes to great lengths to prove that he is now as laid-back as Rainbow is about natural bodily behavior. Later, still confused about the content of "the talk," Jack and Diane decide to simply consult one another about serious adult business. Includes commercials.
