HERE'S LUCY: LUCY'S WORKING DAUGHTER (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Carter, a single mother working for her brother-in-law Harry at his employment agency.
Harry manages to get Kim a job as a sales clerk in a dress shop via his employment agency, although he has not yet told Lucy about it. Lucy returns from an errand and they tell her about it, although she is displeased and feels as though Kim is not ready for the responsibility of a job. They manage to convince Lucy to allow Kim to take the job. Kim becomes quite excited about the job, and Lucy gets an outfit for her to wear to work. She practices her sales technique on Craig, although he is not particularly cooperative. Lucy tries to give Kim advice on how to conduct herself on the job, although she ends up making Kim uneasy about the job. Lucy agrees to visit Kim at the dress shop to check up on her. However, when she arrives she ends up purchasing a number of clothes as a means of making Kim look more proficient at her job. She pretends not to know Kim in order to talk her up in front of her supervisor. She even gives Kim a stack of business cards she printed up with her name on them.
Later, Lucy convenes with Harry and Craig. Lucy discovers that a competing dress shop is sponsoring a fashion show, and she is afraid that it will negatively impact Kim’s business. She passes out her business cards to everyone at a restaurant, acting as if she is a model herself and talking up one of the dresses she purchased from Kim. Kim finds out about Lucy’s impromptu “fashion show” and expresses her displeasure that Lucy is apparently unwilling to allow her to operate independently. Lucy says she will no longer interfere with Kim’s work, but cannot help overhear a surly customer come in to complain to Kim. Kim is flustered by the lady’s rude and arrogant behavior and tries to help her. They get into an argument and Lucy feels compelled to interject herself into it. The lady leaves in a huff and Kim’s supervisor commends her for her attempts to resolve the situation; she also reveals that she knows Lucy is Kim’s mother, as she is in a similar situation with her own working daughter.
