OPRAH'S NEXT CHAPTER: BEYONCÉ {BEYONCE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of interview programs hosted by Oprah Winfrey.

This episode features an interview with singer and actress Beyoncé Knowles. At the London Hotel in New York City, Oprah and Beyoncé meet, first discussing “Life is but a Dream,” an upcoming documentary about her life, and her recent performance at the halftime show of the 2013 Super Bowl. She remarks that she feels “at home” with her work, and discusses her deep passion for her career. Beyoncé notes her feelings about the editing and narrative of her documentary, and how it “connects the dots” of her life. Beyoncé also offers commentary about her relationship with her father Mathew Knowles, who was formerly her manager until she divested herself of his services 2011. They also touch on the seeming omnipresence of cameras in her life, serving as her “diary.” She also talks about the birth of her daughter in 2012, and about how being a mother has changed her outlook on life. This served as a major impetus for the completion of her documentary, as well as her previous miscarriage, which she had not revealed before the documentary. She feels that her daughter has “introduced me to myself” and redefined her relationship with her husband and family; she discusses her experiences giving birth, and talks about her attempts to control the publicity surrounding it. Beyoncé also talks about how her husband, rapper Jay-Z, has responded to the responsibility of fatherhood, calling him “a different human being;” she is contemplating having another child after the conclusion of her latest tour.

Beyoncé also discusses the development of her relationship with Jay-Z and how he helps to shape her personality and outlook on life. Their relationship had been kept out of the public eye for some time, even after they became married. She describes herself as someone who strives to be “tasteful, but push the envelope” and talks about her on-stage alter ego “Sasha Fierce.” Beyoncé also talks about her desire to please people and her reactions to being under constant public scrutiny. She notes that life follows a certain “thread” and she is endeavoring to follow it; a big challenge for her is “time management” and learning to properly plan out her life. The interview concludes, and both Beyoncé and Oprah leave to attend the premiere of “Life is But a Dream.” Commercials deleted.
