CRISTELA: VERONICA (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a young Mexican-American woman working as an intern at a law firm.
Trent is confronted by his wife Veronica, who hand-delivers a cease-and-desist order to prevent him from destroying a rooftop garden in order to make room for more office space. They get into a heated argument before parting ways, and Cristela witnesses the entire thing. She is curious about the particulars of their relationship and asks Maddie for more details; she explains that they are separated and have always been contentious with each other. Trent orders Cristela to conduct research on Veronica’s suit in order to uncover any loopholes he can exploit. Cristela does not look forward to speaking to Veronica, but is unable to convince Trent to visit her himself. Cristela visits Veronica at her small law office and she confirms that she wishes to “hurt” Trent on a personal level. Cristela attempts to persuade her not to go forward with her suit, and Veronica is intrigued by Cirstela’s forthrightness. She agrees to drop the case if Cristela comes to work for her.
Cristela’s co-workers find out about Veronica’s offer and try to convince her not to leave. Cristela is torn: Veronica offers a better job opportunity and is more morally agreeable, but she feels she owes a debt of gratitude to Trent for taking her on and Maddie says that her joining Veronica would be emotionally damaging to him. She feels obligated to remain when Maddie informs her that Trent “likes and respects” her. However, Trent seems to treat Cristela’s departure as a foregone conclusion, upsetting her. She changes her mind and decides to leave the firm, although secretly Trent does not want her to go. Cristela decides to visit Veronica’s firm again to observe her at work, and Veronica says that they tend to take cases to help the underprivileged and underrepresented. Cristela is still conflicted about the matter, and Veronica notes that Trent rarely shows his true feelings in order to avoid seeming “weak.” Meanwhile, Isabella and Henry have difficulty selling chocolate bars for their school.
Trent comes to visit Cristela at her home and asks for her to return. With difficulty, he admits that Cristela is “decent and loyal” and apologizes for making her feel unwanted. She agrees to come back, but only if she is permitted to work on the unprofitable but morally upright cases she enjoys, such as creating useful projects for the community. Cristela tells Veronica this in person, and thanks her for her interest. Veronica thanks her anyway and says she will be seeing more of her during her upcoming divorce proceedings with Trent. Henry and Isabella manage to exceed expectations in their chocolate sales, each in their own way. Includes commercials.
