FRESH OFF THE BOAT: HOME SWEET HOME-SCHOOL (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, inspired by the memoir by chef Eddie Huang, about a Taiwanese immigrant family and their attempts to build a "perfect" American life in 1990s Florida.
In this episode, Jessica begins performing music at Cattleman's Ranch in a desperate attempt to drum up profits. Elsewhere, Eddie is overjoyed to find that he has received a straight-A report card – but grades-obsessed Jessica concludes that his new school is too easy. When she chides Louis for being overly generous with customers, he attempts to get her out of his hair by suggesting that she create an at-home "CLC" – the infamously strict and challenging Chinese Learning Center – and tutor the boys herself. Eddie is frustrated to receive additional work during his would-be free time, though Emery and Evan seem to enjoy their new authoritative roles. Back at the Ranch, Louis takes advantage of the Jessica-free zone to show his employees extra kindness, sure that it will reflect well on the business.
Eddie quickly deduces that his father is up to something and informs on him to Jessica, who decides to relocate the CLC classes to the restaurant in order to keep an eye on things. Louis finally admits that he dislikes her no-nonsense, penny-pinching approach and prefers to do things "his way." He is proven somewhat wrong when a table of teenagers does a "dine-and-dash." Mitch and Nancy offer to cover the bill, grateful for Louis' kindness as a boss; Jessica chases the thieves down and forces them to apologize to Louis, suggesting that their methods are best when combined. Back at home, Louis reminds Eddie that he is lucky to have a mother who cares so much about his academic well-being. Jessica is touched to see her husband and sons enjoying a fun basketball game. Later, Emery and Evan's principal tries to explain their overly indulgent "grading" rubric. Includes commercials and promos.
