ALL OF US: JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a man attempting to balance his relationships with both his fiancée and his ex-wife.
Robert and his friends assemble for a 1980’s hip-hop-themed costume party, including Johnny, a friend of Robert’s from college who is now a lawyer. Alex arrives with her kids and Neesee tells her that she intends to hook her up with Johnny. She introduces them and Alex discovers that like her, Johnny is recently divorced. Jonelle arrives as well, and Tia intends to hook her up with Johnny. Robert regales the party with an oft-told tale of how Johnny gave him money just before he moved out to Los Angeles; all the while Neesee and Tia attempt to talk up Alex and Jonelle respectively in front of Johnny. Alex is forced to leave to put her children to bed, and Jonelle, realizing that Johnny is not particularly interested in her, leaves as well. Johnny offers to give Neesee a ride home, and Robert offers the use of his car. They talk for a while and they bond over their similar experiences with their divorces. They seem to share a romantic moment, although they try to distract themselves to avoid admitting it. They end up sharing a romantic embrace and realize that they are “starting something” between the two of them. Johnny feels compelled to tell Robert, although Neesee states that she has no need of his permission for anything. Johnny admits that for the first time in their long friendship he views Neesee in a romantic light; he leaves.
Johnny returns, trying desperately to avoid telling Robert about his encounter with Neesee. However, he lets it slip that they kissed, and Robert is shocked at this news. Johnny insists that he will not go any further unless Robert is okay with a relationship between the two of them. Robert says that they are all adults and that he has no problem with their budding relationship, although both of them are clearly uncomfortable about the situation. Later, Robert wakes up Tia and talks to her about Johnny and Neesee. She admits that she suspected something was happening but didn’t say anything. Robert is upset because he believes Johnny is adversely affecting “the dynamic of [his] friendship” with both him and Neesee, although Tia believes that Robert is overly preoccupied with Neesee’s relationships and does not wish to talk about it. The next day, Robert, Johnny, and Dirk are scheduled for a game of golf, but Robert does not wish to go and Dirk learns that Johnny and Neesee kissed. Robert confronts Johnny, noting that he was always the person he talked to about his relationship with Neesee and believing that they will be unable to continue as they were. Johnny admits that his divorce was emotionally devastating for him and he is merely looking for “somebody to love [him].” Robert says that he shouldn’t pursue Neesee unless he feels their relationship is going to be a permanent one; he decides to give Johnny his approval. However, that night, Robert has a nightmare about walking in on Johnny and Tia together. Commercials deleted.
