MODERN FAMILY: KNOCK 'EM DOWN (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Cam recruits Jay to fill in on his bowling team as Gloria and Mitchell prepare to party with Haley, determined to prove their youthfulness to their husbands. Phil, struggling to sell a certain house on his own block because of a "pornographic" statue in the yard across the street, is forced to accept a dinner invitation from their seemingly trashy neighbors Amber and Ronnie. Cam admits that Jay must pretend to be gay in order to be allowed on the team, explaining that he is desperate to beat his "arch-rival" Martin. Mitch and Gloria are alarmed to realize that Haley and her friends keep much later hours than they do, and when Martin grows suspicious of Jay, Cam begs his father-in-law to "flounce it up." At dinner, Claire and Phil are startled when Ronnie and Amber turn out to be far classier than expected, and the two couples begin to bond.
Jay, flustered by the lie, begins to bowl poorly, and Cam "confides" to Martin that Jay is distracted by his interest in him. Though annoyed, Jay admits that he respects the lengths to which Cam will go to win and goes along with it. As the night wears on, Gloria and Mitch struggle to stay awake, determined to keep up with Haley, and Ronnie and Amber suggest restoring peace on the block by simply pulling down the offensive statue. Jay's bowling skills improve as he and Martin seem to hit it off, and Cam is thrilled when his team finally wins. Martin attempts to ask Jay out, and Jay, feeling guilty about the lie, "comes out" to him as straight – causing him to be disqualified from the team, negating the win and prompting an incensed Cam to declare Jay his "new arch-rival." Gloria and Mitch quickly find that the youthful nightlife is not for them after all, and though Claire agrees with the statue plan, Phil refuses to allow it and attempts to drive away in Ronnie's truck, though he ends up destroying the statue all the same. When questioned by a cop, Phil uses his position as an upstanding member of the community to cover up their crime, and Claire is impressed with his "outlaw" ways. Alex, however, guesses that her parents and their oddball neighbors have been united by their "appreciation" of art. Includes commercials and promos.
