Summary
One in a series of seminars presented by The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles. This seminar honors “NCIS: Los Angeles,” a dramatic crime series, spun off from the series "NCIS," about the undercover operations of the Office of Special Projects in Los Angeles. Rene Reyes (director of programs, The Paley Center for Media) makes opening remarks following a screening of the episode “Active Measures,” screened in its entirety. Kevin Frazier (co-host, “Entertainment Tonight”) moderates the following panelists: executive producer and creator Shane Brennan; executive producers John Peter Kousakis and R. Scott Gemmill; and cast members Eric Christian Olsen (Marty Deeks), Daniela Ruah (Kensi Blye), Miguel Ferrer (Owen Granger), Barrett Foa (Eric Beale), Renée Felice Smith (Nell Jones), LL Cool J (Sam Hanna), Chris O’Donnell (G. Callen), and Linda Hunt (Henrietta “Hetty” Lange).
The panelists touch on such topics as: the conceptual process involved in scripting the show; the development of the characters’ social dynamics; O’Donnell’s directorial efforts; favorite recollections of the cast involving Hunt; Foa and Smith’s proclivity for dance; interactions with the original “NCIS” show; the show’s portrayal of and attitude towards real-life law enforcement agents; and upcoming plot developments in the show’s seventh season.
Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics among others: plot developments in the show’s potential eighth season; whether the actors get to perform their own driving scenes; how Hunt was offered her role and her thoughts about being back on television after many years; how the show has affected the cast members’ behavior in their everyday lives; scenes in the show which will reveal more about the characters’ personalities; and the show’s “family-centric” nature and how the cast balances their professional and family lives.
