HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER: IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The second season premiere in this series of legal dramas about a hard-nosed Philadelphia law professor who recruits her students to work in her firm – leading to their entanglement in a variety of ethically questionable schemes.

In this episode, Annalise reminds her students, including a cold and distant Wes, that murders are usually committed between close friends or relatives, and the Keating 5, unaware that Rebecca is dead, argue about who allowed her to "escape." At the same time, Annalise sets her sights on the case of Catherine and Caleb Hapstall, two wealthy, adopted siblings accused of murdering their parents; she wonders how best to get rid of their current lawyer, smug Victor Leshner. Annalise's former law school friend, famed Death Row attorney Eve Rothlo, barges in and demands to know why Annalise hasn't called her to handle Nate's defense. Annalise evasively swears to Nate's innocence and begs her to take the case.

Oliver, still reeling from his HIV diagnosis, is uncertain about his future with Connor. Frank remains confident that Wes killed Rebecca, though Annalise in turn suspects Frank. She decides to test Wes by claiming that Rebecca has been found unharmed at a motel. Wes doesn't take the bait, suggesting that he knows her to be dead. Catherine and Caleb's aunt, Helena, testifies to hearing screams and seeing the siblings fleeing the scene of their parents' murder, but Laurel slips Victor surveillance footage of Helena at a spa at the hour of the crime. Asher evades Bonnie's romantic overtures, and when Eve learns that Annalise actually framed Nate for Sam's death, she furiously drops the case. Eve informs Annalise that she has "nothing good inside of her" after all. Michaela nervously texts the mysterious Eggs 911 that Rebecca contacted shortly before "running away," and Victor lands in hot water when the spa footage is proven to be doctored — thus clearing the way for Annalise to step in, as planned.

Wes tells Annalise that he guessed the truth about her fake motel tip and has decided to "respect Rebecca's decision" to escape. Frank then turns his suspicions to Laurel, but Annalise deduces the truth and confronts Rebecca's true killer: Bonnie. Bonnie defends her actions as necessary, but Annalise accuses her of harboring a bizarre loyalty to Sam and thus becoming "a monster" like him. She then apologizes to Eve, who is revealed to be her ex-girlfriend, and admits to framing Nate to protect Sam's true killer. Eve agrees to defend him, and the two make a romantic reconnection. The Hapstall siblings hire Annalise despite their misgivings about her husband's recent death. Annalise takes her students out dancing, feeling that they must "move on" from the recent turmoil. Elsewhere, however, A.D.A. Emily Sinclair blackmails Asher for information on Eve, and the unknown Eggs 911 returns Michaela's messages. Helena is then found murdered; two months later, Wes flees from the Hapstall house — after apparently shooting Annalise. Includes commercials and promos.
