MODERN FAMILY: SUMMER LOVIN' {SEVENTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The seventh season premiere in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, in May, Phil frantically warns Haley that Andy secretly returns her feelings but intends to propose to Beth, and Haley is heartbroken when she arrives too late to stop the engagement. In June, Cameron urges a panicked Mitchell to enjoy his unemployment and find a hobby, and Phil accuses Claire of taking advantage of Haley's depressed state to score some mother-daughter bonding time. Jay and Gloria find that it is too late in the year to enroll Joe in an upscale preschool, and when Haley's family forces her out of the house, she ends up reuniting with her on-and-off ex Dylan at the mall. In July, Mitchell is content with his leisurely life of painting and yoga, but Cam, overwhelmed with being the sole breadwinner, convinces Mitch's former boss Charlie to consider rehiring him. Alex and Sanjay explains that they have scheduled their logical breakup for the end of the summer, sure that they cannot make it work long-distance, and Andy seems taken aback to see that Haley is back with Dylan.
Jay is annoyed by the prospect of sending Joe to a much more liberal preschool, though Gloria points out that they have few options so late in the year, and Cam's plan backfires when Charlie observes how "at peace" Mitch is and decides not to offer him the job. Andy, who is in wedding-planning mode, overhears Claire and Phil's blunt discussion of Haley's failed attempts to interrupt the proposal. In September, Jay unenthusiastically prepares to send Joe off to the "hippie school," as he could not bribe his way into the other one, and Alex is heartbroken by her split with Sanjay. Haley learns that Andy, who has gained an alarming amount of weight over the summer, knows of her feelings for him and is clearly conflicted about the wedding, and Alex, after trying her hand at painting with her uncle, comes to a new decision about her love life. Gloria assures Jay that Joe will do well in school and urges him to check on his older son, and Jay advises Mitchell to get past his midlife crisis by returning to his career. Haley and Andy finally talk and admit their feelings for one another, but they begin to argue about their respective partners and soon storm off, much to Claire and Phil's disappointment. Finally, Sanjay and Alex decide that they are "above average" enough to beat the odds and make things work between them. Includes commercials and promos.
