SUPERGIRL: FALLING (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic fantasy series about Kara Danvers, a.k.a. Kara Zor-El, a young woman who decides to embrace her heroic destiny, inspired by her cousin, Superman.

Cat appears on “The Talk” to voice her public support for Supergirl. At CatCo, Kara accidentally spies on Winn and Siobhan making out in a supply closet, embarrassing her to no end. Winn attempts to explain himself, although Kara attempts to distance herself from the situation. She then visits James, who informs her that Lucy has broken up with him, although he insists that it had nothing to do with Kara or her alter ego. Alex encourages Kara to try to make an attempt at a relationship with James, but Kara feels uneasy about being a “rebound girl.” Senator Crane visits the DEO and explains that she is lobbying Congress to appropriate more funds for the organization. Supergirl hastily leaves in order to rescue a trapped fireman from a large-scale building fire in downtown National City. She successfully saves the trapped fireman, but suddenly experiences momentary disorientation. She flies off, unaware that she has been affected by a red glowing crystal hidden in the wreckage.

The next day, Kara’s behavior becomes somewhat unusual: she wears different clothing and acts more assertive around the office, making a point of showing up Siobhan in front of Cat. Hank instructs the DEO to investigate the recent robbery of an armored truck, perpetrated by a member of the K’hund, an alien race. The K’hund soon attacks another armored truck, and Supergirl and the DEO move to intercept him. Supergirl easily defeats him and lets him run off, claiming to Alex that he got away. Later, Hank pulls Supergirl aside to criticize her for her uncooperative attitude and failure to follow procedure, and they get into an argument. She challenges him to capture the K’hund himself, although Alex points out that this would create an unnecessary danger for everyone involved. She accuses Hank of being dishonorable and storms off.

Kara becomes increasingly confrontational towards Cat. Siobhan shows Cat a video of Supergirl from the previous night, including evidence that she allowed the K’hund to escape. Cat orders Siobhan not to release the video until more information can be ascertained, although Siobhan is excited at the prospect of running a story claiming that Supergirl has “gone bad.” Alex manages to capture the K’hund and bring him to DEO headquarters. He tells them the truth about Supergirl allowing him to run away. This furthers Alex and Hank’s suspicions about Supergirl’s behavior. Kara discovers that Siobhan is attempting to send her video to the Daily Planet, and she surreptitiously prevents her from doing so. Cat learns about this and fires Siobhan, informing her that she has also made sure that she will not be able to find employment at the Planet. Kara takes Winn and James out to a club to “celebrate” Siobhan’s dismissal. While there, she makes romantic advances on James, although he is uncomfortable with her drastic change in behavior. Cat calls James and asks him to get her in contact with Supergirl.

Supergirl visits Cat, who confronts her about deliberately releasing the K’hund. Supergirl claims that she has a “dark side” which Cat has ignored, and that she is tired of “enabling your victimhood.” Cat believes that Supergirl is under some sort of mental stress and advises her to “lay low” for a time. Supergirl rebukes her and, to prove a point, tosses her off of a skyscraper, catching her moments before she hits the ground. James and Winn approach Hank out of concern for Supergirl. After some investigation they discover that Supergirl was affected by synthetically-created red Kryptonite while she was rescuing the fireman. The Kryptonite was imperfectly replicated, explaining why it is affecting Supergirl on a mental and not a physical level. It turns out that Maxwell is responsible for its creation, and he freely admits to doing so after the incident with Bizarro. He claims that he did so in order to create a means of effectively fighting against Non and his army of Kryptonians. However, he claims that the fire was an accident and that he never meant to harm Supergirl or any innocent civilians. He offers to create an antidote for the red Kryptonite and Alex reluctantly allows him to do so.

Cat decides to hold a press conference to publicly denounce Supergirl in light of her recent actions; James and Winn are unable to convince her otherwise. Alex finds Kara in her apartment, and Kara goes on a rant about her sister’s influence over her life. She uses her heat vision to set her clothes on fire as Alex attempts to calm her down. Kara goes on a rant about how Alex is supposedly jealous of her, and says that she killed Astra in order to “control” her. She flies off as Alex bursts into tears. Senator Crane orders Hank to use whatever means necessary to bring Supergirl in. Maxwell gives Alex a weapon which he says will reverse the effects of the red Kryptonite on Supergirl. Supergirl goes on a rampage through National City, easily overcoming any resistance. Alex unsuccessfully attempts to use Maxwell’s weapon on her. Supergirl prepares to kill Alex, forcing Hank to transform back into J’onn J’onzz and use his Martian abilities to combat Supergirl directly. With his help, Alex is able to deploy the weapon and free Supergirl from the influence of the red Kryptonite. J’onn changes back into Hank and surrenders to the DEO.

Kara awakens in a DEO facility and is relieved to learn that she did not kill anyone, although she feels intense guilt for the actions she took. She apologizes to Alex and begs for her forgiveness; Alex responds that she still loves her and that they will work together to overcome this latest problem. J’onn is placed in a cell and Senator Crane interrogates him; he states that the real Hank is dead, but will not elaborate on how he died. He tells Alex that he chose to surrender in order to protect her and Kara. Kara apologizes to James for her behavior, and he accepts her apology, realizing that she was not fully in control of her own actions. She admits that she was jealous of Lucy because of her relationship with James, but he is uncertain of how he feels about her and asks that she leave him alone for the time being. Supergirl speaks to Cat again, explaining how much she loves helping the people of National City and apologizes for nearly killing her. Cat accepts her apology, albeit in a somewhat dismissive tone. Supergirl is concerned that she will be unable to win back the trust of the city after her rampage, and Cat offers to help her accomplish this. Commercials deleted.
