MODERN FAMILY: A STEREOTYPICAL DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, as summer vacation draws to a close, Alex battles mononucleosis as Haley attempts to hide the fact that she has been fired from her job. Phil has a "traumatic experience" while showing a house when he is locked in a pantry overnight, though his family fails to notice his absence, and Manny, influenced by an opinionated young woman, attempts to embrace Communistic "simple living" as Jay panics that his new neighbors, an African-American family, will think him racist for coincidentally putting up security cameras on the day of their arrival. Claire, tired of being the stern boss at work, is thrilled that an ailing Alex is filling the role of "home bummer" with her grouchy behavior, and Cam and Mitch are taken aback when they overhear Lily calling her transgender friend Tom a "weirdo," with Mitch speculating that she needs to be "un-hicked" after a summer with Cam's hillbilly family.
Jay scrambles to prove his non-racist ways with a visit from his pal Miles, and Phil struggles with his "PTSD" as Luke uses Alex's fatigue to his advantage to steal her many stored homework assignments. Jay suggests that Lily "needs a minute" to adjust to her friend's new life, as he himself needed time accept Mitch's coming out, and Alex is flustered as her members all attempt to keep her home or send her back to college for their own selfish reasons. Jay's neighbor Shawn assures him that he has not misunderstood his intentions, and Lily reveals that her comment to Tom was in response to his insult of her "holy dads" mural – which she too actually hates. Alex finally figures out that her family is manipulating her – though fails to see through Haley's ruse to send her back to school – and ends up having to take the semester off to recover. Later, Jay's new cameras reveal some embarrassing truths about his family. Commercials deleted.
