JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE ENEMY BELOW {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
One in this animated television series about a group of superheroes working to defend the world against colossal threats. In the first half of this two-part episode, the USS Defiant is attacked and sunk by territorial Atlanteans, and though Aquaman seems unmoved by the ship's fate, he grudgingly allows the Justice League to swoop in and save the sailors' lives, though he orders the nuclear submarine left alone. Superman urges Aquaman to attend the World Assembly to discuss peace, though General Brak requests to wipe out the troublemaking "surface-dwellers" once and for all. Aquaman ponders the matter with Queen Mera and their infant son, while elsewhere Green Lantern's doubts about the "madman" undersea king are seemingly confirmed when he inspects the submarine and finds the plutonium core missing.
Aquaman takes Superman's advice, in a fashion, and barges in to the World Assembly, though his peace demands are quickly deemed unreasonable. The Justice League tries to calm the situation, but as Aquaman storms out of the hearing, he is shot by a mysterious sniper. Back in Atlantis, Orm immediately demands vengeance for their king's "death," though Batman quickly intervenes and saves Aquaman's life by placing him in a saline tank. Aquaman recovers enough to deny knowledge of the plutonium's whereabouts, and the sniper returns to finish him off when news reports announce that he is being moved elsewhere for treatment – but it's really J'onn acting as a decoy. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman chase and capture the sniper, who turns out to be Deadshot – who reveals that he was paid in Atlantean gold to carry out the hit. Aquaman escapes Green Lantern's watchful eye and returns to Atlantis to confront Orm, the obvious traitor – but Brak's soldiers then arrest Aquaman instead. Continues on 128882. Commercials deleted.
