RIVERDALE: CHAPTER ELEVEN: TO RIVERDALE AND BACK AGAIN (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic mystery series, based on the long-running "Archie" comic book series, about the complex lives of the residents of Riverdale.

In this episode, the school prepares to carry on with its homecoming tradition despite Jason's death, and Archie invites his mother Mary, who has recently returned to town, to hear him play at the dance. Veronica learns that her father Hiram may soon be released from prison, but she remains unsure of his potential involvement in Jason's death. Jughead is pleased when a much-improved F.P. takes an interest in his writing, including his piece about Jason, but F.P. advises his son to "move on" from the mystery. Veronica tells an eager Archie that they must pretend that "their moment" did not happen, and Alice tries to recruit Betty and Veronica to help her investigate F.P. She believes that Hiram may have hired him to kill Jason, but Betty refuses to suspect her boyfriend's father of wrongdoing. Veronica, however, privately agrees with Alice. Cheryl announces that she intends to bring Polly along to homecoming as her "co-queen.' Veronica tries to convince Archie to help her search F.P.'s trailer for evidence, though he, too, is reluctant to believe in his friend's father's villainy.

Mary and Hermione have a frosty encounter as Polly, still trapped at the Blossom home, is scolded by Penelope for snooping in the forbidden east wing. Betty learns that Alice has invited Jughead and F.P. over for dinner and immediately suspects a trap. Archie tries to adjust to having both of his parents at home. Jughead considers moving back in with F.P., as he seems to have cleaned up his life. However, Archie, learning of F.P.'s questions about Jughead's article, changes his mind and agrees to help with Veronica's investigation. As Cheryl and Polly search Penelope's bedroom for "retro" clothing, Polly is shocked to find the ring with which Jason proposed to her before his death. Veronica and Archie break into F.P.'s trailer as Alice attempts to interrogate him over dinner. The evening grows more uncomfortable when they are joined by Hal. Penelope tells Polly that Jason returned the ring in anger when he rejected the family, and tensions flare at dinner as F.P. recalls long-ago disagreements between Betty's parents. Cheryl finds that Penelope has given Polly a sedative in her milkshake, and Cheryl tells her that she disposed of the ring in the heat of the moment.

Veronica and Archie fail to find any incriminating evidence in the trailer, and Jughead, arriving at the dance with Betty, is taken aback when F.P. suggests moving to Toledo to escape the scrutiny of Riverdale. Alice goads Mary with hints about Hermione and Fred's past together, and Betty begins to draw conclusions when she sees Alice talking intently with Veronica and Archie. The police search F.P.'s trailer as Veronica and Archie perform "Kids in America" onstage, and F.P. is shocked when they discover a gun in a lockbox. Betty confronts them about conspiring with her mother, and Jughead is stunned to realize that the dinner was a ruse and that his friends suspect his father of murder. Betty protests that she still believes in F.P.'s innocence, but Jughead heads for home alone, devastated at her apparent betrayal. Betty, guessing hat Alice tipped off the cops, angrily informs her mother that she is not "done with" Jughead at all, and Hermione assures a conflicted Veronica that Hiram will be "dead to them" if he is found to be involved in Jason's murder. Mary invites Archie to live with her in Chicago, and Cheryl, who is shown to still possess the ring, overhears her distraught parents vowing revenge against F.P. Veronica and Archie track down a still-angry Betty and assure her that the lockbox was not in the trailer when they searched it, suggesting that F.P. is being framed. Commercials deleted.
