ME, MYSELF & I: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this comedy series about the early, middle and later life of inventor Alex Riley. In this episode, in 1991, 14-year-old budding inventor and Michael Jordan devotee Alex is abruptly relocated to Los Angeles when his mother gets engaged to a pilot, Ron. In 2017, 40-year-old Alex is stunned to find his wife Sarah cheating on him, and in 2042, wealthy 65-year-old Alex suffers a near-fatal heart attack. Young Alex gets to know his oddball stepbrother-to-be Justin and informs his new family that he wishes to "change the world" with an amazing invention, though adult Alex, seemingly out of ideas, receives some "tough love" from his best friend Darryl, in whose garage he is living six months after his divorce. Older Alex returns to work after his heart attack and shocks his adult daughter Abby – who is general manager of the Chicago Bulls – and the rest of his employees by announcing his immediate retirement. Young Alex heads to his first day of school and instantly falls in love with cool girl Nori Sterling, and adult Alex is upset to find that his ex Sarah intends to remarry and move Abby hundreds of miles away to San Francisco. Sarah points out that he is ill-equipped to care for her alone, but he protests that he merely needs to "hit a layup" and improve his life.
Justin decides that Nori is interested in Alex as well and informs him that he will be "a legend" if he publicly kisses her at the school dance, and adult Alex explores meditation, religion and "baked goods" to inspire a new invention idea, all to no avail. During his slow-dance with Nori, Young Alex panics and earns the embarrassing and all-too-literal nickname "Chokey," alienating the disgusted Nori before their would-be kiss. At a diner, Abby wonders if Older Alex will be able to find happiness in his new retired life, and Ron comforts the humiliated Young Alex by showing him that even the legendary Michael Jordan has had many moments of failure along the way. Adult Alex visits Ron, worried that he is having a nervous breakdown, but when Ron advises him to "look into the past" and revisit his younger self, he finally gets a genius idea for a table-leg stabilizer. Young Alex avoids Nori, sure that he has ruined their chances of romance, but Older Alex is then amazed to encounter Older Nori, now a widow who owns the diner. Adult Alex happily welcomes Abby to his garage home, deciding that he will "keep shooting," and Older Alex and Older Nori finally have their long-delayed first kiss. Commercials deleted.
