WIRE, THE: HOMECOMING (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic series about the police and the criminals they target. This is the sixth episode of the series' third season, which focuses on the nexus between Baltimore's election-year politics and the Barksdale drug enterprise.
Colvin is angered when he still sees dealers outside of Hamsterdam. He tells Carver to use whatever means necessary to get the message across. Those rounded up later find themselves in Maryland's wooded hinterlands after they are forced out of the police van. Back in the city, Avon and Bell are totally non-plussed by the red tape and complications involved to get permits for their condos. And back at the MCU, Daniels resolutely turns down McNulty and Gregg's request to pursue Bell anew, stating that the dealer is no longer associated with dead bodies. Moreland confronts Landsman and tells him that he's finished with the hapless search for Dozerman's gun and that he's returning to the pursuit of Mitchell and Tank's killer. Moreland subsequently visits Mitchell's family and asks them to broadcast that he's seeking answers. Despite Bell's protests, Avon can't come to terms with Stanfield having pushed his soldiers off their corners. McNulty and Greggs head to Annapolis to ask the state's attorney to declare D'Angelo's death a homicide. She turns McNulty down, after which he and Greggs go drinking and discuss their romantic lives. Romance doesn't flourish between Daniels and his wife when they make an appearance at a social event attended by Davis. When she hints at reconciling, Daniels puts her off. Later, Pearlman finds out about Marla's political intentions, and Daniels reassures her that they'll only keep up appearances until the election. Meanwhile, Avon and Bell talk about their future on the street, with Bell promising to talk to Stanfield.
Kimmy relates to Little that the police are looking for him, after which he ensures that a witness to Mitchell and Tank's killings won't speak against him. When Colvin tries to move an elderly woman out of the drug-infested Hamsterdam, she politely resists, much to his dismay. Across the street, Bell check out the new drug-selling spots with Broadus, noting that they can place a small amount of their wares in the locale as well. Meanwhile, Avon instructs Wise and Slim Charles to take care of Stanfield. They set up a drive-by plan, but things go awry when one of the soldiers loses patience and acts on his own, resulting in his death and that of another. Marlo later surveys the damage as Bubbles tells Greggs details about the Stanfield/Barksdale feud. Carcetti meets with Gray and manipulates his fellow councilman into thinking that he should run against Royce. Donette is visited by Brianna, who could care less about Donette's relationship with Bell. She does, however, find interest upon hearing that McNulty doesn't believe that D'Angelo's death was a suicide. Avon is told by Slim Charles and Wise that they'll personally handle Stanfield. When they drive by his quarters, Slim Charles kills Fruit's next-in-command but Wise can't bring himself to shoot Fruit.
When Greggs and McNulty bring the latest news about Bell to Daniels, the lieutenant explodes at both of them, assuring them they the MCU is done with Bell, once and for all. Moreland faces off with Little, who assures the officer that no eye witness will now testify against him. Moreland furiously tells Little that he's chief among the causes for the city's decline. Bell goes to see Clay, who announces that, for $25,000, he'll bribe the right people to get permits for his condos. Royce takes Burrell to task after the latest murders and threatens his job if the killings don't let up. Carcetti goes to see D'Agostino, asking again if she'll manage his campaign to replace Royce. They agree that a black voice must back him, and the pair concur that state delegate Odell Watkins fills the bill. Wise admits to Avon that he was unable to kill Fruit and is now "out of the game," after which the two part ways amicably. Greggs tells McNulty to go to Colvin and have him order Daniels to restart the war against Bell. McNulty quickly follows her advice. The next day, Daniels is called into a meeting with Colvin, Rawls, and Burrell.
