QUEEN SUGAR: GIVE US THIS DAY {FIRST SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

The second of two programs found on ACCNUM 136136. The first season finale in this drama series, based on the novel by Natalie Baszile, which explores the lives of the Bordelon family of Louisiana. In this episode, Ralph Angel and Darla spend a loving morning together, and Charley puts a new plan into motion when Davis explains that he and Felix, wishing to leave the scandal behind, plan to sign with a New York team. Nova bids farewell to Too Sweet and reunites with Calvin, and Micah reacts coldly when his father tries to mend fences, prompting Charley to tell Davis that he must "prove himself" in order to re-earn his son's respect. She then meets up with Remy, but their amorous evening together is stalled when he admits that he accidentally spilled the beans to Ralph Angel about Charley's plans for the mill.

Charley sits down with her siblings and explains her idea, pointing out that running the mill will have long-term benefits for the farmers of the community. Nova is convinced, but Ralph Angel remains skeptical, sure that Ernest would have wanted them to focus on their own farm. At the same time, Violet learns that Hollywood has begun the process of divorcing Leanne, but he then adds that he has taken a six-month job on the rig and requires the time to consider their relationship. Ralph Angel confides in Darla about his sisters' actions, and Charley gives a convincing speech to the local farmers, promising to pay their contract penalties and assuring them that the risk will soon pay off. Remy is insulted when Charley abandons their evening together to be with Davis, but when Davis reiterates his intentions to go to New York, claiming that he is "no good" for her and for Micah, a disgusted Charley tells him that he is no more than "one of those men" after all. She then tracks down Felix and lays out her blackmail plan, informing him that she will publicly reveal his many sexual indiscretions if he does not remain on the New Orleans team with Davis – and pay her $5 million, part of which she then donates to a sex workers' charity in Melina's name. Nova and Calvin's date night is ruined when a fellow cop, Bruce, recognizes her as the reporter who "tried to burn the police department down," and a fight breaks out as Calvin defends her against Bruce's offensive attack. Back at home, Ralph Angel and Darla are stunned to find that Ernest wrote a new will shortly before his unexpected death in which he left all of his land to Ralph Angel alone, urging him to build a home for himself and Blue and assuring his troubled son that he is "better than he thinks." Unaware of this, Charley uses the blackmail money to buy the mill, ready to start a new chapter in her business life. Commercials deleted.
