DIFFICULT PEOPLE: CRIMINAL MINDS (TV)
Summary
One in this dark comedy series about two self-centered best friends/would-be comedians living in New York City. In this episode, a depressed Julie binges "Criminal Minds," wondering how to rediscover her former happiness, and Arthur decides to write personal thank-you notes to PBS's generous "viewers like you." Billy, unable to sleep at Todd's apartment, agrees to a "staycation" at a hotel, and Lola is outraged when Matthew adopts her identity as his drag persona for "RuPaul's Drag Race." When Veronica firmly rejects Marilyn's memoirs as far too boring, she decides to borrow a few elements from Matthew's bizarre and disturbing past, and Billy rents out his apartment to a pair of German tourists for the weekend. Julie reunites with her beloved former improv group, all of whom seemed to have moved on with their adult lives, and she "yes, ands" herself into a dilemma when she falsely admits to dallying with Melissa's boyfriend Chuck on the night of his shocking death.
Billy and Todd, still unable to sleep, decide to "wear themselves out" and befriend a pair of oddball tourists for a day of NYC nonsense. Marilyn allows Matthew to photograph her as she continues questioning him, and Arthur "stumbles upon a caper" when he finds that all of the donating viewers have the same address. Julie's old friends drag her off to see Chuck's ailing mother in the hopes of providing her with closure, but the old lady quickly realizes that Julie is lying and dramatically accuses her of murder. Arthur's boss Gaby orders him to keep secret the fact that "viewers like you" is really just popular redneck comedian Larry the Cable Guy, and Todd and Billy, still sleepless, are horrified to learn that Billy's Airbnb guests are nudists. Julie tries to prove her innocence in Chuck's "murder," admitting that she just wanted to spend time with her old pals again, and she tells Billy, frantically cleaning with Todd, that she is far more "no but" than "yes, and."
