GOLDBERGS, THE: ANIMAL HOUSE (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a dysfunctional Pennsylvania family in the 1980s.

In this episode, "Animal House"-obsessed Barry sets out to find the perfect college fraternity to pledge and soon settles on the ultra-preppy Beta Zeta, much to Erica's disgust. Beverly struggles to adjust to her two-thirds "empty nest" by obsessing over time with Adam, but Pops encourages her to use the time to hang out with Murray instead. TJP (The Jenkintown Posse) is supportive when Barry informs his friends that, as a future Beta Zeta brother, he will soon be too cool to hang out with them, assuring him that they are also "killing" their post-high school experiences. "Gifted sitter" Murray casually rejects Beverly's many offers of fun couple activities, preferring to relax at home and watch the Eagles, so Beverly resolves to "steal" his buddies Vic and Bill to make him jealous.

At a Beta Zeta party, Barry is shocked to find that he has "been Floundered" and resolves to prove himself a "Bluto" instead, but the brothers aren't at all charmed by his Belushi-esque antics. Undeterred, he decides to simply "be himself" and try again, but TJP rejects his pleas for help, explaining that they have plans to celebrate Matt's birthday instead. Barry recruits Adam and Dave Kim to be his fellow Fat Boys – or rather, "Frat Boys" – and he crashes the Beta Zeta talent show and begs for admittance in a self-penned rap. But the others reject him again, firmly informing him that he's not fraternity material. Elsewhere, Murray finally catches on to Bev's trick, though she's annoyed when he turns up at their pottery class in search of his pals, not his wife. Barry sadly gives up on his dream of joining a frat and gaining "fifty best friends," but Erica points out that he already has a reliable brotherhood in TJP, and he happily rejoins his friends' birthday celebration. Murray agrees to try Jazzercise, assuring Beverly that she's only one of "three things" he truly loves in the world. Commercials deleted.
