PARTNERSHIP FOR A DRUG-FREE AMERICA: LINDA {ART DIRECTOR'S AWARDS: 1988}

Summary

This harrowing public service announcement for the Partnership for a Drug-Free America shows that just saying no to drugs isn't always as easy as it appears to be. In a segment taped in May 1986, a teen-age girl named Linda and her friends explain to an interviewer that it's easy to get drugs like marijuana and crack at school, but that they have too much willpower to get involved in the drug scene. Later, in July of the same year, a hidden camera photographs Linda buying a vial of crack on the street from a dealer. Three months later, she is hopelessly addicted to crack and is virtually unrecognizable. She tearfully explains that she wants to stop using, but that she doesn't have the willpower to quit.
