In "The Super Bowl: Super Showcase for Commercials," NBC sportscaster Bob Costas introduces a selection of fifty-six commercials aired during Super Bowl broadcasts. He explains that the Super Bowl is more than a sporting event. It has also emerged as one of the advertising industry's premier showcases for spectacular new television commercials: highly publicized, extremely popular, and very expensive. Costas points out that both large and small advertisers use the Super Bowl as a vehicle to introduce new products and to enhance the image of well-established brands.
Commercials for the following advertisers and products are included: Doritos, McDonald's, Lee Jeans, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi, Sony, Master Lock, the U.S. Marines, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Apple Computers (including the landmark commercial, "1984"), Canned Food Information Council, Foot Locker, New York Life, Burger King, Chrystal Light, IBM, Royal Crown Cola, Slice, Diet Coke, Diet 7-Up, Lipton Original, Budweiser & Bud Light, Stroh's, Nissan, Nike, L.A. Gear, Reebok, Lay's Potato Chips, American Express, Timex, and Alamo Car Rentals. Celebrity endorsers appearing in these commercials include Chevy Chase, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Demi Moore, Michael J. Fox, Ray Charles, the "Uh-huh Girls," Cindy Crawford, Michael Richards, Rodney Dangerfield, Pierce Brosnan, Bo Jackson, Shaquille O'Neal, Emmett Smith, Tom Landry, former Vice President Dan Quayle, Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz, Charles Barkley, and Paul Newman.
