AMERICAN EXPRESS: LONDON {ADWEEK: BEST SPOTS OF
AUGUST 1997}
Summary
In this commercial for American Express, comedian Jerry Seinfeld performs his stand-up routine in England, where audiences cannot understand his use of American slang expressions such as "seventh inning stretch." So he decides to take a tour of the country -- using his American Express Card -- to soak up the local lingo. After visiting pubs, cricket fields, soccer stadiums, and famous spots such as Abbey Road, he's speaking just like an Englishman. The next time he performs for an English audience, he makes everyone laugh with a joke about something that happened during the "tea interval." Slogan (supered): "Do more. American Express Cards."
