APPLE MACINTOSH COMPUTER: 1984 STEVE JOBS INTRO
{CHIAT/DAY HISTORICAL TAPE}

Summary

This short promotional film for Apple computers introduced the landmark "1984" commercial and includes opening remarks by company president Steve Jobs. He briefly relates the history of the American computer industry over the past several decades and how IBM consistently misjudged the personal computer market. He relates how his fledgling company became the fastest growing corporation in U.S. history, but adds that its spectacular success is being challenged by IBM. He concludes by asking whether an IBM-dominated computer market wouldn't mean that George Orwell was right in his celebrated novel "1984." The landmark commercial 1984 follows in its entirety. Awards: Gold Award, The One Show (1984); 1984 Clio Awards: U.S. Television (Cinema; Direction). For copies of "1984," see AT88:1085, AT:21960.035, and AT:29530.009.
