MAGICAL DISNEY CHRISTMAS, A (TV)
Summary
This televised Christmas special highlights a variety of scenes and shorts featuring beloved Disney characters. In the first scene, Mickey and Pluto venture into the woods and cut down a Christmas tree, though Mickey is unaware that he has selected Chip and Dale's home. Back at his house, the chipmunks wreak havoc on the decorations as they play with the lights and ornaments, and Pluto's repeated attempts to warn Mickey about the uninvited houseguests go unheeded – and when Mickey finally spots the pair, he allows them to stay in the spirit of the holiday.
Next, a scene from "Bambi" (1942) is shown, in which Thumper attempts to help Bambi enjoy his first winter, though Bambi struggles to stay upright on the frozen pond. In another scene, Donald Duck suits up for the snow and spots his three nephews building a snowman, and decides to cause trouble by steering his sled right into their creation. Annoyed, Huey, Duey and Louie turn the tables on him by re-building their snowman right in front of a boulder, and the competition soon escalates into a huge snowball fight.
Next is a scene from the end of "Lady and the Tramp" (1955), in which Jim Dear and Darling and their many dogs attempt to take formal Christmas photos. Chip and Dale then follow Donald Duck home after he cuts down his own Christmas tree, and they cause mischief as they play with the gifts, including a toy train set. Donald dresses as Santa Claus in an attempt to trick them, but Chip and Dale outsmart him and the ensuing battle nearly wrecks the house.
After this, Donald Duck learns about "Las Posadas," the Mexican tradition in which children reenact the journey of Mary, mother of Jesus, as she attempts to find shelter on Christmas Eve. Donald, however, is primarily interested in the piñata and the goodies inside. Following this is the "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" scene from "Cinderella" (1950), in which the Fairy Godmother transforms Cinderella into an elegant princess for one night only, after which Mickey and Minnie's day of ice-skating is interrupted by Donald Duck's pranks on Pluto. Mickey is then forced to rescue Donald when he nearly plummets over a freezing waterfall, much to Pluto's amusement. Finally, in a scene from "The Small One" (1978), a young boy sadly attempts to sell his beloved donkey and encounters Saint Joseph, who kindly buys the animal in order to transport his pregnant wife to Bethlehem.
