WEBSTER: WEBSTER LONG: PART 2 {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The second season premiere in this comedy series about a diminutive African-American child and his white guardians. In this episode, as the custody battle over Webster continues, George and Katherine nervously prepare for the arrival of a caseworker, sent to evaluate Webster's current home life. When she arrives, Webster worries that he is going to be sent back to a children's home, as he was in the past, and he is dissatisfied with the explanation that a judge will determine his permanent home, feeling that a stranger cannot make the right decision for him. Upon arriving at the courthouse, George and Katherine are upset to find that the judge, Barshall, is a longtime friend of Phillip's. Barshall offers to recuse himself, though Katherine considers that they could use the relationship to their advantage. Barshall then chats privately with Webster, while out in the hall Phillip requests more time with Webster, though Katherine points out that occasional fun visits are not the same as full-time parenting. Barshall explains that the dispute is not a "mad fight" but rather proof of everyone's affection for him, though Webster frets that he will alienate either Phillip or the Papadapolises by choosing between them.

Later, Webster prepares for his weekend with Phillip, much to George's unhappiness, and Katherine is annoyed to find that George has given him a pet snake in an attempt to scare Phillip off. Webster is excited to spend time with his uncle, though Phillip is taken aback when Webster mentions that they are simply "pals" and George and Katherine are his true "every-day family," and he soon makes a rash decision. Back at home, George and Katherine are shocked to receive a call from an airline revealing that Phillip has kidnapped Webster and whisked him out of town, leaving the episode on a cliffhanger. Includes commercials and promos and an "ABC News Business Brief."
