NAKED CITY: A RUN FOR THE MONEY (TV)
Summary
One in this series of police dramas set in Manhattan's 65th Precinct.
In this episode, infamous hitman Bodram Bogata, who kills for money and "when he feels like it," decides to flee the country and manages to evade the police after a long chase. Flint, furious with himself for losing Bodram after suffering a sprained ankle, calls an informant, "Picklebarrel," for assistance. Elsewhere, Bodram observes a craps game on the street and then grabs the most promising player, Georgie, promising him 10 percent of the winnings if he will continue playing and win him the money he needs to escape New York. Picklebarrel, né Sam, proves unhelpful when questioned about the killer, though he points out that the police should merely wait for someone else to carry out the contract on Bodram's head. Sara, Georgie's fiancée, desperately searches for him and learns that he left the game "friendly-like" with Bodram; she heads straight to the police department to report his kidnapping, explaining that he would not have gone willingly with the "very awful man."
Georgie wins an impressive $16,000 at his next game, though Bodram forces him to stop in the middle of a winning streak and drags him back to their hotel. When Bodram refuses to hand over his 10 percent, Georgie waits for the criminal to fall asleep and then sneaks out of the room with the money in hand. Back at the police station, Parker assigns his cops to track down illegal craps games all over town in the hopes of finding Georgie and Bodram. As Sara nervously rambles about Georgie's skills with math and betting, Flint calls a sleepy Libby and requests that she look after Sara for the night. Georgie, having returned to the game, craps out and loses everything, then returning to Bodram's hotel room, as promised. Libby and Sara agree that "men are fools" as Picklebsrrel bribes the hotel clerk for information, then tells the cops – and another interested party – exactly where Bodram can be found. Bodram awakes and, shocked to find that all of the money is gone, dazedly tells Georgie that he has "killed him," as he now has no way to escape and will surely be arrested or killed by one of his enemies. Georgie, unconcerned, simply leaves the hotel and reunites with a profoundly relieved Sara. Commercials deleted.
