CHARLIE BROWN & SNOOPY SHOW, THE {SALLY AND SNOOPY; FOOTBALL; BEADS; SNOWBALLS; KITE FLYING; LINUS AND LUCY; BASEBALL} (TV)
Summary
The first of two programs on this asset. One in this animated series based on the popular "Peanuts" newspaper comic strip, featuring the perpetually unlucky Charlie Brown and his pet beagle Snoopy. In "Sally and Snoopy," Sally has to do a report on animals for school and asks Snoopy for insight into what animals think. She decides to bring him into school to help her deliver her report for the class, but Snoopy soon gets frustrated with the other kids, who don't seem to believe that he's a dog. Despite all the trouble they get into, Sally gets an A on her report and thanks Snoopy by taking him out for ice cream. In "Football," Linus tries to teach Sally how to play football, but she's reluctant to do so. The ball starts losing air and she believes it is "hissing" at her before it deflates entirely. Meanwhile, Lucy once again invites Charlie Brown to attempt to kick the football while she holds it, but he doesn't want to fall for her tricks again. However, she manages to convince him with her "innocent-looking eyes." Once again Charlie Brown attempts to kick the football and falls on his back. In "Beads," Lucy makes Schroeder a set of "love beads" signifying their "fondness" for each other, but he rejects them. Lucy decides instead to give them to Snoopy, who seems to appreciate them better. In "Love," Lucy comes upon Schroeder playing on his piano and tries to get him to admit that he loves her without realizing it. He quickly gets fed up with her and angrily rebuffs her. In "Snowballs," it's wintertime and Lucy and Linus are out doing various activities in the snow. Lucy finds a surprise when she won't let Linus help her make snow bunnies. Soon Lucy and Linus find themselves taunted by the other kids about their snowballs, each gets back at them in their own way, such as Lucy knocking over several kids, including Charlie Brown, with a large snowball used like a bowling ball. In "Kite Flying," Charlie Brown attempts to fly his kite when it gets caught on Peppermint Patty's nose. She tries to teach him how to properly fly a kite, but his attempts to replicate her technique all fail. His continued attempts to fly the kite cause no end of trouble, such as catching Snoopy by accident in the string, or getting tangled in it for days. He tries to give up, but finds he cannot sleep due to thinking about the kite. Peppermint Patty suggests that he fly paper airplanes instead, but he proves to be no better at that than the kite-flying. In "Linus and Lucy," Linus gets upset at Lucy always bossing him around, such as when she won't let him use their umbrella in a rainstorm. She continues to get on his nerves, such as demanding a grandiose thank-you when she brings him toast or getting angry when he draws a picture of her yelling. Linus gets a splinter and Lucy goes to remove it with tweezers but Linus is too scared to let her. Snoopy arrives, also sporting a splinter, and Linus gets him scared of Lucy and her tweezers as well. Finally the two of them run away rather than let Lucy remove the splinters. Later, Lucy feels depressed and Linus advises that she "count her blessings." She remarks that she doesn't seem to have any and complains that nothing goes her way. Linus points out that she has him and that he loves her, which causes her to burst into tears. In "Baseball," Charlie Brown is playing baseball and various distractions come his way, such as Snoopy asking him for dinner. Charlie Brown tries to encourage his team by extolling the virtues of determination. Lucy takes Charlie Brown's advice to "keep a stiff upper lip" literally. Schroeder contests Lucy's claim that she can hit a home run, and she makes him promise to give her a kiss if she does. Lucy does hit a home run and Schroeder is terrified to keep up his end of the bargain. Once she reaches home plate, however, she realizes that kissing Schroeder in this manner is not worth it and leaves him be. Commercials deleted.
