FALL GUY, THE: OCTOBER THE 31st (TV)

Summary

One in this series of action/adventure programs about a movie stuntman who uses his skills to track down real-life criminals. In this program, iconic horror actress Elvira complains about the script of her latest project, though she changes her tune when she sees the hunky stuntman, Colt. Elsewhere, elderly Katherine Deauville tells her husband Preston that she has saved them from financial ruin by allowing the horror movie to film inside their Gothic manor home, but he strongly protests, reminding her that "blood will flow once more" if strangers are granted entry. Director Jason Klemer reminds the Deauvilles that they have already signed a contract, however, and Preston immediately fires his chef, gardener and caretaker. Howie tries to settle Jason and Preston's disagreement, but this only prompts Katherine to "curse him forever."

Lead actor Anthony Marcus protests that he doesn't need a stunt double, and Elvira is annoyed to learn that she will be sharing quarters with Jody, not Colt. Later, everyone is stunned when Preston apparently tumbles down the staircase to his death, and Katherine declares it a tragic accident and requests and immediate burial. Despite the awkward situation, Jason prepares to carry on filming in the basement, though Howie soon breaks a treasured antique mirror, causing him to wonder if the "curse" is perhaps real. Colt suffers a minor injury during a stunt when a real candelabra turns out not to have been swapped for a fake prop, and as Halloween arrives, Jody is horrified when she is accosted by the supposedly dead Preston as he wanders around the mansion – and Katherine declares that her husband's spirit blames the film crew for his untimely demise.

Suspecting that he may have faked his death to teach his unwanted guests a lesson, Jason, Colt and the others decide to dig up Preston's fresh grave and inspect the coffin – but his very much dead body is indeed found within. As Elvira continues aggressively pursuing Colt, the crew members search the house and come upon an old newspaper headline suggesting that Preston's identical twin brother Andrew was responsible for their mother's death many years ago. When an older woman's skeleton is found in the basement, Elvira suggests holding a séance to get to the bottom of the mystery, though Colt pretends to drink himself into a stupor and does not attend the ceremony. When they attempt to summon the spirits, a frightening voice forces Katherine to confess that Preston actually murdered his mother and framed his twin, sending him to an asylum and then imprisoning him within the home, finally opting to kill him off in order to collect Preston's life insurance. The undead "Andrew" then bursts into the room and attacks his twin – but it is Colt in disguise, of course, and he explains how he noticed a small detail in the newspaper article that led him to realize that it was in fact Andrew who killed Preston. Some time later, the cast gathers to watch the film on television, with Elvira taking a moment to celebrate the "unsung heroes" of moviemaking. Includes commercials and promos.
