HE & SHE: THE OLD MAN AND THE SHE {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere of this comedy series about cartoonist Dick Hollister and his wife Paula, a social worker.
Paula brings home an old Greek man named Mr. Ponopolis, who has arrived in the United States by mistake in the hopes of finding his long-lost nephew. An immigration office is trying to deport Mr. Ponopolis to Greece, and Paula seeks to find a way to prevent that from happening. The Hollisters' neighbor, a firefighter named Harry, can speak Greek and thus helps them communicate with Mr. Ponopolis. Paula gets Dick to speak with Matthew Cornell, an influential lawyer who works for his publishing firm, to find a legal loophole to keep Mr. Ponopolis in the country. Meanwhile, Dick must deal with Oscar North, an egotistical and somewhat dim actor who portrays "Jetman," a superhero that Dick created, in a television series based on Dick's comic strip. Dick is attempting to devise a new sidekick for Jetman; however, the show cannot add a new character until Dick has included that character in the comic strip. Oscar insists on having an animal sidekick, although Dick views this as a bad idea.
Matthew determines that if Mr. Ponopolis arrived in the country with a work visa, he will be permitted to stay. Dick calls Paula to determine what sort of visa Mr. Ponopolis possesses, but she is interrupted by Mr. Simpson, a man from the immigration office, who is cross with her over the matter. She informs Dick that Mr. Ponopolis has a visitor's visa, which means he will have to be deported. That night, Dick and Paula can't sleep. She gets the idea to adopt Mr. Ponopolis in order to keep him in the country. Mr. Simpson arrives the next morning and balks at their adoption scheme. Dick and Paula have Harry explain to Mr. Ponopolis that he will have to be deported, and Mr. Ponopolis solemnly leaves. However, Dick gets an idea and rushes down to his studio to create a new character for his comic strip, a silent sidekick to Jetman for Mr. Ponopolis to portray. He and Paula convince Oscar to go along with the idea and receive a call from Matthew about Oscar's legal involvement in the matter, knocking themselves unconscious in the process. Includes commercials.
