WELCOME BACK, KOTTER: THERE'S NO BUSINESS {PART 2 OF 2} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of programs about high school teacher Gabe Kotter, who returns to his alma mater, James Buchanan High in Brooklyn, to teach a group of incorrigible students known as "sweathogs." The sweathogs are depressed about Mr. Kotter's turn to stand-up comedy, more so when they discover he is not coming to class to pick up the gifts they got for him. Mr. Woodman informs them that the school has assigned a new teacher to them. Mr. Kotter and Peter come back from an interview with an executive that appears to have gone over well, and the sweathogs arrive to ask him not to go. Mr. Kotter points out that he can't remain with them forever. Unhappy at being reduced to nothing but "punchlines," the sweathogs leave. When Julie learns that Mr. Kotter agreed to a road tour deal without her consent, she becomes upset and asks that she be let in on such decisions. Mr. Kotter promises to do so, saying it isn't easy to turn down offers when it appears that his dreams are coming true. Mr. Kotter's next show goes over quite well, and hopes to impress the executive with his next one. The sweathogs arrive to wish him good luck in his new career and to say how happy they are for him. They also reveal that their new teacher is a woman and they're rather smitten with her. However, Mr. Woodman arrives and reveals that the sweathogs are putting on an act: at first they engaged in all sorts of pranks when Mr. Kotter left, but now they're too depressed to do much of anything. He admits that he wants Mr. Kotter back. Julie advises him to do so and Mr. Kotter decides to intentionally bomb on stage to get out of his road tour. The next day he is back in the classroom, where the sweathogs make fun of his display. Mr. Woodman pulls him aside to ask if he intentionally performed poorly, but Mr. Kotter says the important thing is that he's back. Commercials deleted.
